We Try Before You Buy: How to Wear Zara's New It Pieces

Here at Who What Wear UK, we want to take all the stress out of shopping, and to help us do just that, we're launching a new series, We Try Before You Buy, where we'll be road-testing new trends, fresh labels, the latest drops and key buys. First up, Hannah, Isabel, Elinor and I from the Who What Wear UK team tried on all the new things that have arrived in Zara this week. Hannah tried out the bold twinset–and–black headband combo that's all over Zara's homepage right now, and Isabel tackled the two jumper styling. Keep scrolling to see our verdict on the best new-in Zara pieces to buy (and style up) now.

The Leopard-Print Skirt

On Isabel: Zara Sweater With Puff Sleeves (£40), Oversized Mustard Sweater (£30) and Animal-Print Midi Skirt (£30)

The Verdict: "I usually wear black or navy trousers and skirts, but I think a leopard-print silky midi skirt is an easy way to add pattern into my wardrobe."

The Grandma Cardigan

On Hannah: Zara Double-Breasted Jacket With Pearl Buttons (£50)

The Verdict: "This cosy, comfy set is like part Gucci, part Wes Anderson, part my nan. I'm not usually one for baggy layers, but there's something still so smart and pulled together about it. I'm just missing a string of pearls."

The Leopard Dress

On Elinor: Zara Animal Print Dress (£40)

The Verdict: "I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to leopard-print pieces right now, especially dresses. This one works because it's long with flattering slits up the side, and you can wear trainers (my favourite) or ankle boots with it."

The Teddy Coat

On Emma: Zara Long Textured Coat (£90), Fabric Ballerina With Maxi Bow Details (£30) and Embossed Messenger Bag (£30)

The Verdict: "Max Mara's teddy-bear coat is my dream purchase, but sadly I don't have a Kim Kardashian West–worthy budget. This £90 Zara teddy-bear version is cosy, but my tip is to go up a few sizes, as it'll look more expensive when oversized."

The Net Shoes

On Hannah: Zara Mesh Heel Slingback Shoes (£70)

The Verdict: "These shoes—I mean, they couldn't be more suited to KiraKira or my fussy feet. These guys are sparkly AND comfortable. What's not to love?"

The Faux-Fur Coat

On Hannah: Zara Faux-Fur Coat (£90)

The Verdict: "So soft, so retro, so in line with my dressing as an Upper East Side grandma. It's the best brown furry coat I've seen, other than Jeanne Damas's creation for Rouje. Would suggest buying a size up to wear with cosy knits."

The Coat With Fur Cuffs

The Verdict: "While it's technically a classic belted wool coat, the addition of the fluffy faux-fur cuffs makes it feel incredibly fabulous."

The Bow Shoes

On Emma: Zara Fabric Ballerina With Maxi Bow Details (£30) and Embossed Messenger Bag (£30)

The Verdict: "These tweed pumps with oversized bows are a little ridiculous and will probably get some confused comments, but they make me feel like Blair Waldorf, which is exactly what I want from all my shoes."

The Doubled-Up Jumpers

Photo:

Isabel Mundigo-Moore

On Isabel: Zara Sweater With Puff Sleeves (£40) and Oversized Mustard Sweater (£30)

The Verdict: "The models on the Zara homepage are all doubling up on jumpers, so I wanted to see if you can wear this without looking silly. I felt very 'fashion' walking around Russell Square, but I could get used to having the extra warmth around my neck."

The Slogan Loafers

The Verdict: "I wasn't sold on these initially, but I thought I'd try something I wouldn't usually pick, and I loved how they looked with skinny jeans. They were surprisingly comfortable."
