Picnic Outfits Are Surprisingly Hard to Master, But I've Done It

Roll out the blankets and stock up on the Pimms cans because it's officially picnic season. I'm the first to admit that it's more important to plan what's in the picnic than your outfit, but once you've got your sandwich fillings decided, see the picnic-ready outfits I've found that will make you even more excited for summer. From dresses that you can actually sit comfortably in to a top that will make you feel like you're wearing a bikini (even when you aren't), keep scrolling to see our guide to what to wear to a picnic.

Dress Like the Blanket

Style Notes: When in doubt, dress like the picnic blanket and wear a gingham or checked dress.

Style Notes: Checks are no longer just in greys and monochromatic colours—the trend has moved forward with vibrant colours, and these dresses make perfect picnic attire.

Style Notes: Speaking of dresses, floral tea midi dresses are perfect for picnics. They're comfortable and the length means you can sit down without worrying you're flashing everytime you reach for another crisp.

Style Notes: If wearing swimwear to a park in the city will always feel wrong to you, the best in-between option is to wear a smocked bandeau top with trousers.

Colourful Denim Is a Strong Option

Style Notes: White denim is an obvious picnic no-no, but colourful denim in either red or pink looks amazing for a picnic.

Wear Simple White Trainers

Style Notes: Basket-style hampers are actually pretty chic, and seeing as this stores the sandwiches, this is arguably the most important part of your outfit.
