What to Wear to a Country Wedding When Wellies Aren't an Option

Deciding what to wear to a wedding can be difficult enough, let alone when the location is in the middle of a field—which in the UK is probably a very, very muddy field. One of my colleagues just received a wedding invite where the dress code mentions wellies. If, like her, you just can't get your head around wearing wellies to a wedding, we have broken down four hero items that will see you through any rural reception. Scroll below to shop our edit of the best dresses, jackets and more to wear to a country wedding.

1. Floral Midi Dress

A Style Album

A countryside wedding usually calls for a floral midi dress. Whether the wedding party is sitting on hay bales or is sheltered in the comfort of a wedding barn, these dresses are smart enough for any ceremony but fit perfectly with the more relaxed feel.

2. The Field-Proof Shoes

Style du Monde

It might seem wrong to wear boots to a wedding, but smart ankle boots or elegant brogues can save you from wearing wellies to the wedding reception if this is a true farm wedding. Olivia Palermo wore black brogues with a Giambattista Valli couture dress to Haute Couture Fashion Week proving that this unlikely combination somehow works.

3. The Only Heels for Grass
What to wear to a country wedding: Millie Mackintosh

If you really can't wear flats to a wedding, then follow Millie Mackintosh's lead and opt for a pair of neutral wedges (espadrilles with ankle ribbons are the chicest in our opinion). You will be able to happily skip across the grass in these with no risk of sinking.

For when it gets cooler and you still want to stand outside by the hog roast, throw a tailored jacket over your floral dress to give your look even more of a country feel.
