What is it about French style that's so covetable? We've always loved documenting cool Parisian fashion here at Who What Wear, so naturally our ears perked up when we heard Vogue.com got style tips from French model and perennial cool girl Jeanne Damas.
Damas told Vogue.com that there is one cliché accessory her countrywomen never wear: berets. That's right, the beret-and-striped-T-shirt look is pure fiction when it comes to actually representing their style. "I do not know anyone who wears a beret," she told Vogue.com. "The other day on a special 'Parisian-style' shoot, there was an outfit with a beret, a trench, a marinière shirt, a cigarette, and a red lip ... and we realised that nobody knew how to place the beret on my head correctly. The French stylist had to look on the Internet to check how it is supposed to be worn!"
So what accessory is officially French girl–approved? According to Damas, scarves are the perfect accent. "Beautiful dark-grey or navy-blue scarves are best when it is very cold—especially in cashmere," she told Vogue.com.
