The Vintage-Inspired Swimwear Trend the Fashion Crowd is Backing This Summer

When it comes to swimwear trends, we tend to have a slightly ambivalent view. Generally, it's our belief that everyone has a style or fit that they go to year after year, regardless of whether it's "in" or not. Also, there seems to be a worrying obsession with bum-bearing G-string swimwear right now, so forgive us if we don't instantly jump on the latest beach-bound bandwagon.

However, there has been a slew of styles this season that have made us sit up in our seats and challenged us to rethink our go-to holiday staple. From gingham prints and waist-cinching bottoms to classic all-in-ones to belted styles, they all vary in shape and fabric, but the new swimwear trends are united by their irresistibly chic retro vibes. And the best thing about them? They're super flattering on everyone.

Both high-street and high-end brands alike have embraced the throwback moment, and luckily for us, all the decades are covered. We have our eye on the '50s-style silhouette of Faithfull the Brand's bikini, which would look so good with cat-eye sunnies and gold jewellery. We've also heard that Hunza G's '90s-inspired one-pieces are great for doubling up as a tank top (just layer under high-waisted shorts). To be frank, we want them all. Style Notes: Gingham is one of our favourite swimwear prints this season, and looks fab in both swimsuit and bikini form.

Style Notes: You can't really go wrong with the movie star glamour of a simple one-piece. Make like Lauren Nicole and embrace the '90s appeal of a plunging black number.

3. Belted Designs

Style Notes: There's nothing that says retro style better than belted swimwear. Whether it's a cinching one-piece or high-waisted bikini, this is a surefire way to make any beach getup look more expensive.
