Flat shoes can either give you life or zap it away as fast as Superman downing a Kryptonite cocktail. I’m not one for going heel-less, but I can see where Kate Moss was coming from when she ordered eight pairs from a new Italian brand you’ve not heard of yet. She—queen of ballet pumps—has shifted her allegiance to a niche and unexpected style indeed. Forget brogues and say so long to loafers… The supermodel’s new casual footwear collection is made up of cute pairs from ViBi Venezia, a brand founded by sisters Viola and Vera Arrivabene and based on a souped-up version of classic gondolier slippers. Yes, you read that correctly: gondolier slippers. I didn’t know the gondolieri wore specific shoes, you say. But it’s true that even in 2017, there are still some classic pieces that have not yet been touched by high-fashion hands.
It was the Furlane (a practical slip-on style, pictured above) that first lured in the native Venetians to provide them for a discerning, style-savvy crowd: "We grew up wearing the Furlane, and when we saw that a lot of people around Europe were asking where they could find the same shoes, we decided to build our website so people could finally order a little bit of Venice to their doorsteps all around the world!"
Now their offering has expanded to a much larger scale, offering more silhouettes plus countless fabrics and finishes, allowing you to pick a truly unique pair of flats—not to mention there are men's and children's styles as well as capsule collaborations.

In essence, there are three key silhouettes ViBi offers—sweet Mary Janes, the classic smoking-slipper style in various iterations (that's the Furlane one) and pointed-toe mules (aka the Sabot). All styles are "obviously super comfortable, and you can wear them with everything!" they confirm. "From a black-tie event or while walking on the seaside or at home by the fire during the holidays." Any wonder the fashion crowds are trying to keep them an inside secret?
Camille Charrière has a pair. Kate, as you know, picked up eight when she discovered them in London via The Store by Alex Eagle. Right now Yoox is now exclusively selling a special capsule selection called ViBi Venezia x Yoox (after a very successful launch with the brand three years ago). The duo enjoyed the first collaboration with Yoox so much that they were "thrilled to do something together again this year,"—the chic results of which you can shop below.
Oh, and it just so happens the two girls behind ViBi are ridiculously cool, being featured in the likes of Vogue Paris and known to be decked out in Dior at any given moment (see above). Our kind of women.
