Los Angeles–based influencer Jen Andrews-Cater considers her style to be minimalist with a twist. If you scroll through her inspiring Instagram page, you’ll notice a range of elevated ensembles that are made up of chic and modern versatile pieces. On that note, we wanted to get a sense of the simple trends she’s currently gravitating toward because they have longevity.

Essentially, the easy trends in question aren’t so trendy. They’re forward but have classic design details that will help them live past just one season. Keep scrolling to check out the must-haves on Andrews-Cater’s list. You’ll also notice outfit imagery to showcase how you could style each of the trends. Oh, there are also shopping recommendations if that’s of interest.

1. Retro and Canvas Sneakers

"Whether you're into a more streamlined sneaker or really follow every trend, sneakers will never go out of style and obviously have such practical use, never mind the comfort factor! I love my New Balance kicks, not just for the style, but they are so comfy."

Shop socks to wear with retro sneakers:

2. Bomber Jackets

"Bomber jackets are super on-trend right now, but again, I've always had a bomber jacket in my wardrobe mix. Whether it's a leather bomber or an oversize canvas one, I just always feel like they add a cool factor to a simple look."

3. Oversize Shirts

"I've always worn oversize button-downs. They are just so practical and easy. When I'm hard-pressed on what to wear, I throw on a crisp white button-down, denim or trousers, and kicks or ballet flats, and I'm out the door. Over the past few years, we've seen oversize button-downs in vibrant colours emerge, so depending on your style, there's one for everyone! I love to stick to my neutrals and have them in black, white, and beige. I love to use mine as bathing-suit cover-ups in the warmer months as well!"

4. Cargo Trousers

"This summer, you will see cargo pants everywhere in various fabrics: from denim to canvas to cotton. I've always worn cargoes, and they are sort of my go-to weekend vibe. As a busy working mom, I love throwing on a pair of cargoes, a tee, baseball hat, and kicks, and I'm out the door with my 8-year-old son to the park or birthday party."

5. Straight-Leg/Relaxed Jeans

"I love denim and definitely will purchase other brands, but I always come back to my Levi's 501s. There's nothing quite like the joy of finding the perfect pair of vintage 501s: It's like a warm hug! But I also love buying the newer, made-in-America ones right from their site. There's something about the fit that just gives you confidence. Everyone is always talking about the Ribcage or other styles, but I'm a 501s girl!"
