Move over, Stan Smiths. If this season's street style is any indication, there's a new sneaker taking over. The equally iconic Vans Old Skool was the footwear of choice for showgoers in NYC this week. Sure, they're comfortable; after all, they were made for skateboarding. But the fashion set is borrowing its timeless style, and the shoe is on its way to becoming a staple.
Street style favorites Veronika Heilbrunner and Kate Foley sported the black-and-white kicks, as did Vogue's Kelly Connor. While Foley paired her canvas sneakers with a ladylike blue midi dress, Heilbrunner embraced a more tomboy-inspired look—complete with a slouchy top and aviator shades—with a leather version of the Vans. Connor opted for the high-top classics to go with her retro sunglasses and oversize blazer. All three women and their varying personal styles made a strong case for the throwback footwear and proved that skateboarding and fashion could coexist harmoniously.
