& Other Stories, Mango and Topshop Have Saved Their Best Coats for Last

On Saturday, I made my weekly pilgrimage to the real-life shops to carry out some field research. Essentially, it’s my job to bring you all the fashion goings-on as they happen, and I find the most effective way of uncovering new trends is to sharpen my elbows and get out there to see firsthand what’s causing a frenzy. And this weekend, it was all about coats.

When scanning the queues at the tills, it looked as though there was barely an arm that didn’t have a piece of new-season outerwear draped over it, and I have a couple of theories as to why that is: One is that it was widely reported we’d get snow this week, which, although I’m sceptical, it certainly feels cold enough for it. The other is that it seems toward the end of last week, the shops decided to bestow us with their best coats en masse after apparently holding them back for as long as possible. The fact we’re experiencing warmer temperatures further into autumn means retailers are reluctant to fill floors with wintry items until they’re actually called for. And it appears that time is now.

While there are lots of impressive coats out there, in my opinion, Topshop, Mango and & Other Stories have the cream of the crop. From teddy to trench and leopard to check, I combed through thousands of coats and bring you the very best from all three stores. Keep scrolling and you’ll be ready to welcome winter with open, suitably toasty arms…

MANGO

Rust is one of the biggest colour trends of the season, so this belted number is a sure-fire winner.

We’ve seen so many influencers in this coat. It’s a miracle it’s still in stock.

Use this gorgeous hue to breathe new life into your trusty jeans.

TOPSHOP

This looks like it could have come from Marilyn Monroe’s wardrobe archives—which is obviously a good thing.

Because checks are basically neutral, you can throw this coat over any ensemble.

The slightly shorter hemline makes this coat ideal for petites. Plus, it’s roomy enough to wear over even the chunkiest of jumpers.

This is simply chic on every level. Say hello to your new workwear hero.

& OTHER STORIES

You might not think it, but lilac shades suit every skin tone and hair colour. Try it—you’ll be impressed.

Double-breasted coats are excellent at keeping in the heat.

The classic trench is given the minimalist treatment in this trapeze silhouette.

Pink coats were big a few seasons back. Now, it’s all about blendable blush tones.

No stylish woman should be without a timeless navy coat.

Seeing as your top half is now suitably cosy, let’s turn our attention to the best boots for fighting off the chill.
