Spring Jeans

The allure of an amazing pair of jeans is indisputable. Even the incomparable Yves Saint Laurent was humbled before their transcendent power and praised their spectacular nonchalance. While Mr. Saint Laurent was referring to jeans in their most simple and unembellished form, we think he'd appreciate the latest crop of denim looks, as they're thoroughly modern and marvellous too!

One thing is for certain: this spring is a great denim season, stuffed with lots of amazing options. The new offerings run the gamut from grungy to the embodiment of grown-up sophistication, but nevertheless, we managed to narrow it down to our Top Five. Of course you can keep wearing your beloved classics, but if you want to ramp up your spring wardrobe, check out these runway-inspired styles in all the latest washes and silhouettes!

1. Siwy Hannah Slim Crop Jean ($198)
Our first selection is definitely the edgiest of the bunch, but we figured our more fashion-forward readers would dig them. The rips and snow-white colour are reminiscent of the slashed-and-skinny styles from Balmain's spring collection-but without the $1500+ price tag. These Siwy Jeans are an updated version of their classic Hannah Slim Crop (a style that Kate Moss often wears) and are the perfect length to wear with some statement shoes, like the Steve Madden Evelina Suede Booties ($119.95) shown above. We completed this look with a H&M Blazer ($49.90) and Urban Outfitters' Truly Madly Deeply T-Shirt ($24).

2. MiH Lisbon Jean ($255)
The tapered trouser is a very important piece for spring, so we were delighted to see that MiH created a denim version of this key shape. Though a tapered leg can seem scary at first, it's actually a very figure-friendly cut and looks good on lots of different body types. Of course, that said, whenever you wear a silhouette that was formerly considered rather dowdy, you need to make sure the rest of your look is very cool. We styled these chino-cut jeans with a pair of Seychelles
Cypress Platforms ($98), as the seriously high heel and platform soles add a dash of sex appeal to the posh pants. If you don't want to feel like you're financially committing to this trend, try Express' Skinny Denim Editor Pant ($69.50) for a hint of the MiH look.

3. Current/Elliott The Boyfriend Jean ($229)
As we've mentioned repeatedly, the boyfriend jean never fails to delight us. They always hit the right fuss-free note and seem to be loved universally (flattering and comfortable is apparently the ideal combo!). The instigators of the boyfriend jean trend-Current/Elliott-created a must-buy update to this beloved style for spring, a bleached-out variation called the Trash Wash. As seen above with Steve Madden's Sasse Platforms ($129.95) and a vintage gold mesh belt, the light blue jeans are the perfect piece to perk up your winter wardrobe. All we can say is grab them now, as this celeb-favourite style is sure to sell out soon.

4. 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere Jean ($198)
As seen on ladies like Sienna Miller, slim cropped jeans are a wonderful alternative to leggings. Additionally, these shorter pants were seen all over the spring runways, so they're on trend as well. We adore this unadorned pair from 7 For All Mankind (in the Soho wash) for its neat look and chic simplicity. Show off the skinny shape and wear a tucked in top, like Delia's Elisa Plaid Shirticon ($39.50), an equally svelte belt, like Urban Outfitters' Skinny Braided Leather Belt ($24), and a tall pair of cutout shoes, like We Who See's Cutout Mule ($125).

5. Acne Jeans A-Pant ($299)
Finally, we're pleased to present the latest offering from the always ahead-of-the-curve Acne Jeans. They Have taken their beloved A-Pant-a seventies-influenced, high-rise/wide leg-and reissued it in a stone-bleached stretch denim. The snug fit at the waist will cinch you in, while the generous full leg is nice and relaxed. We prefer this style worn with a sturdy shoe, so we used the We Who See Cutout Mule ($125) again, finishing the outfit with a H&M Grey Cardigan ($39.90) and Urban Outfitters' Studded Belt ($24).
