The Random Fabric That Is Dominating This Summer

While we love a niche trend here at Who What Wear, we have to say that we definitely didn't see this year's terry towelling (or terrycloth) trend coming. Thanks to its super-absorbency, the fabric has historically been used for everyday sportswear and accessories, but after it was spotted on the spring/summer 2021 runways of Bottega Veneta and The Row, we knew that it was destined for cult status.

If that's not enough, this year a new brand has launched, Signe London, which has dedicated its whole collection to pieces made out of terrycloth. Coming in a small edit of colours, Signe's retro-inspired terrycloth minis are right at the top of our wishlist this season, and have already been spotted on the likes of Sara Waiste and Zeena Shah. Definitely one to watch. The high street has also jumped on the towelling trend bandwagon this season, with Arket dedicating a whole summer capsule to the fabric. The shorts sets are a particular highlight, coming in classic white, beige and blue stripe.

This is also, unsurprisingly, a trend that lends itself to the beach or lounging by the pool (fingers crossed for those holiday plans), and Faithfull the Brand's smocked dresses and co-ords are exactly what we want to be throwing over a bikini after jumping in the sea. But, of course, every single one of these pieces will look just as good with city-ready sandals and sunnies for balmy weekends, so you know you'll get that cost-per-wear in. Scroll down to see and shop our edit of the best towelling pieces available to buy now. Now we just need the weather to improve, but I'm afraid we can't help with that.
