I Didn’t Think A SPF Powder Would Work For Me Until I Tried This One

I have a confession, despite hearing from other beauty experts continuously to wear sunscreen every single day, until 2020, I didn’t. It seemed unnecessary, especially in the UK, the land of sporadic sun. With dark skin and low climates, I just didn’t understand the need. But after learning about the way that UVA and UVB rays affect skin–from pigmentation problems to skin cancer–I have been diligent with applying SPF every day, even if I don’t leave my house.

When it comes to actually venturing out into the sun though, it’s important that you not only apply SPF before you head out, but you also top up throughout the day too. This is where I come a bit unstuck. Although I rarely do a full face of makeup anymore, I do wear a light base or concealer along with bronzer or blush and realistically I’m not about to remove all my makeup to reapply SPF. So, how do you stay protected without having to redo your skin and makeup routine every time?

After using the Supergoop! (Re)Setting 100% Mineral Powder Spf 30

Enter SPF powder. Admittedly, I have tried some powder sunscreens and they have been questionable. Whether it’s been the chalky, matte texture or the ashy cast it’s left on my skin, I have not been a fan so I didn’t have high hopes for the Supergoop! (Re)Setting 100% Mineral Powder SPF 30. But, like with most things, I was willing to give it another try, especially as I’m such a big fan of the Supergoop! range of sun protection.

The size of this powder is super compact so it’s easy to travel around with and apply on the go. You simply twist the powder compartment and tap to release the product into the brush. I used it early afternoon when my skin started to look greasy and was about to head out for a coffee and it mattified my skin without making me look 2D. Right now, in the UK you can only get your hands on the translucent version of this powder and it works for my skin tone but I think if you had a much deeper skin tone you might get a slight cast as it’s a mineral powder. Because of the zinc oxide in mineral sun-screen of any texture, whether that’s powder or cream, it’ll always have a slight cast on deep skin as zinc oxide is a finely milled white powder. So, I would only recommend up to a mid to deep skin-tone. While only the translucent version is available in the UK right now, in the States you can get your hands on three different colours; light, medium and deep. I got my hands on the deep colour while in New York and I love it just as much.
