The Tried-and-Tested It Pieces of Summer 2016, by Ashley Madekwe

Ring My Bell

Hi, Who What Wear readers!

The sun is (finally) out in the UK, and so you're probably feeling more than ready to jump off the starting blocks and get shopping for your summer wardrobe. Being in L.A. I've admittedly had an advantage—more time in the sunshine means I've had more time to prep my hot-weather looks—so from this wealth of fashion experience, here's what I'd recommend you consider putting on your must-find list.

From the most comfortable (and super-chic) summer sandals to the one item that makes denim shorts look up to date, go through the gallery to see and shop my top picks for the new season…

I’m two summers deep into my love for this style, and they’re everywhere right now. Showing your shoulders is sexy but subtle.

The Clio from Ancient Greek Sandals is probably the most comfortable shoe I own, and they seem to go with everything, from shorts to dresses.

Preferably 501s. I have a couple of pairs of these and basically LIVE in them in L.A. all year round (I get weird looks in January). They only get better with age. My fave wash is a lighter stonewashed hue—very '90s.

I have got to get something in gingham, like this adorable little summer dress from Reformation. Trés picnic chic!

You can always rely on a pair of throwback sunnies: I always like cat-eye silhouettes or hearts.

I'll be going for espadrilles that tie around your ankle— these are a summer classic and make me feel like I’m on the French Rivera in the '50s.

This with the gingham dress and espadrilles will be killer!

Because you must! They are THE jean of the season.

These are great paired with denim shorts for a relaxed evening look.

If you find yourself in an unavoidable summer heel situation, then only a mule will do… Look to Gucci for the best.

A crochet bikini is a total classic when you go on holiday.

I like something with a bit of tailoring to keep it chic. Bonus points if you can get one in a linen or linen-blend fabric.

Slides are my best bet, because for some reason I can’t be bothered with heels when it’s hot (okay, it’s because my feet swell up).

How many of these do you already have in your closet? Let us know in the comments box below…
