Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto has all the qualities we look for in the perfect Style Spotlight subject. For starters, she's extremely talented (her first ever on-screen role in Slumgdog Millionaire earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award) and her breathtaking good looks go without saying (she's been the face of L'Oreal since 2009). But best of all, she has an incredibly smart and noteworthy approach to fashion (earlier this year she was honored at ELLE's Personal Style Awards)! Considering these facts and the that her latest film, Immortals, hits theatres everywhere next week, we thought it was the perfect time to showcase some of Pinto's most memorable red carpet and off-duty outfits!

While Pinto is fearless with her colour choices-she made People's 10 Best Dressed list in 2009 because of to the way she wears bold hues-her ability to create buzz-worthy red carpet moments with high-impact dresses is also worthy noting. For example, the actress wowed onlookers at amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Gala in France earlier this year when she turned up in a metallic Lanvin dress from the F/W 10 collection (bottom row, left). Thanks to the lustrous fabric, the frock is a total knockout, plus its short hemline and tiny pleats make it a fun and fashionable choice for the 27-year-old actress. Of course the show-stopping after-hours ensembles don't stop there! Back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Trishna, our style subject selected a blush semi-sheer Valentino dress from the Resort 12 collection (top row, left). Besides the fact that her beaded frock is perfect in keeping with this season's textured dresses trend, we also completely approve of her accessories-specifically the metallic Roger Vivier clutch and studded Jimmy Choo sandals-which further elevate her fabulously glitzy ensemble.

In addition to dazzling us with a generous helping of high-glam evening looks, Pinto routinely impresses with her ability to upgrade minimal, white pieces with interesting accents and vivid prints. Speaking of the latter, we're crazy about the outfit she put together for the Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 12 presentation in New York early this summer (top row, right), which consisted of the Italian fashion house's Multi Coloured Silk Print Blouse ($820, 800.628.8916) and White Cotton Skirt (price upon request, 800.628.8916). The halterneck top livens up the white skirt, while giving the sophisticated outfit just the right amount of summery spirit. Pinto caught our eye again in sleek white, only this time in the form of a streamlined frock, at ELLE's 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute event held in Los Angeles last month (bottom row, right). We're crazy about her Calvin Klein Collection dress, especially the way she made it her own by adding Maryam Keyhani's BYLGIA Necklace ($415) and multi-coloured Marni heels.

Pinto has us flipping for her off-the-clock outfits too, which often highlight her ability to construct a layered look with ease. Just take the en-route outfit she wore at the Toronto International Airport two months ago, for example (large image). Pinto started with a bright pink top and paired it with skinny jeans, a tailored blazer, and Roger Vivier cap-toe flats for a comfortably chic ensemble. For extra warmth, Pinto added a printed scarf and finished the look with some oversized shades, both of which are smart travelling accessories!

With these five key looks as a reference point, we were able to find a number of look-a-like products that will make recreating Pinto's stylish sensibilities a breeze! In terms of Pinto's fancier fare, we recommend picking up Mark + James by Badley Mischka's Photo Sequin Dress ($375), which is sure to be a hit at all your upcoming holiday soirees. Not sure how to style this eye-catching piece? Just take a page from Pinto's lookbook and team the shimmering frock with a metallic clutch, like Marc by Marc Jacobs' Snake-Embossed Clutch ($160), and Steve Madden's Studded Sandals ($150); the resulting outfit is sure to be a smash! If sequins aren't your thing, you can always go the metallic route a la Pinto and pick up Tibi's Metallic Draped Dress ($350) or Mina's Metallic Dress ($57.50).

If you find Pinto's use of streamlined white pieces appealing, we have a couple of options for you too. Starting with her minimal Calvin Klein Collection dress, we believe Diane von Furstenberg's Ivory Leigh Side Zip Dress ($279) is a pitch-perfect alternative, as well as Rachel Roy's Textured Novelty Sheath Dress ($398), which is a more cold weather friendly option. The great thing about these two dresses is that they act as a blank canvas, so there's an array of ways you can accessorize them. We're partial to Pinto's decision to add a statement necklace, and think Avent et Apres' Multi Strand Antique Silver Beaded Necklace ($288) and Elizabeth Cole's Ava Asymmetrical Accent Multi-Strand Necklace ($493) would both work perfectly! Those of you who prefer separates should pick up ADAM's white Cotton-Blend Pencil Skirt ($78) pronto and punch it up with a lively top, like Milly's Mikkel Printed Ruffled Top ($153) or Emilio Pucci's Printed Cotton Halterneck Top ($278), for a Pinto-approved nine-to-five ensemble.

Last, but certainly not least, it's time to grab a few items inspired by Pinto's travel ensemble! You'll definitely want to check out J. Crew's Schoolboy Blazer ($188), and pair it with James Jeans' Twiggy 5 Pocket Legging Jeans ($110) and Paul Mayer's Bravo Flats ($225) for your next winter getaway. Just don't forget to bundle up with a scarf, like Madewell's Long Stem Roses Scarf ($52), to give your on-the-go outfit that Pinto-worthy finish!-Jessica Baker
