At fashion week, the influencers, editors and buyers who are photographed outside the shows tend to be ferried around the cities in a chauffeur-driven car, meaning their choice of footwear is often anything but sensible. But these days, there's always a fashion week happening somewhere. Gone are the days where the fashion crowd assembled twice a year for two main collections. This summer, we've already had the couture shows in Paris and witnessed Australian Fashion Week. The footwear has been a little more practical than usual, however, with showgoers wearing comfortable sandals that don't require hailing an Uber.
There are five sandal trends in particular that appeared in every street style picture. Several of these were started by the designer of the season, Bottega Veneta, as the white strappy leather heeled sandals and the square-toe mules are without a doubt the two cult shoes of the summer.
Other headlining shoes include flip-flops, which have had a more sophisticated makeover in 2019 with the addition of leather and heels (trust us—these sound much chicer than they sound). The next two sandal trends are the shoes you'll see on every tube carriage this summer: strappy Grecian-style flats and buckled chunky two-strap sandals.
