7 Trends That Will Make Your Spring Outfits Feel So Current

The sun is shining (at least, it is while I type this), and temperatures have reached double figures. At the risk of jinxing the weather, let's talk about spring outfits. I've been in spring mode for a while, but with the weather finally taking a turn, now seems like the perfect time to really start breaking down outfit trends we can expect from 2022.

With the burden of layers almost behind us, I'm turning my attention to the pieces that'll help make my existing wardrobe feel more current and on-point for spring. By now, I expect you've already brushed up on your fashion knowledge by consulting our seasonal trend report. (If you haven't, take a moment to get up to speed—I'll wait.)

Now, while the runway trends are undoubtedly important and will set the tone for the next six months, I'm here to tell you that you needn't invest in them heavily to tap into 2022's aesthetic; a couple of clever purchases is all you'll need to bring your wares bang up to date this spring. Don't believe me? Just look at the influencers below, who have utilised a handful of key buys to elevate their outfits.

Scroll on to the spring outfit trends I recommend, from the very specific colour that experts are backing to wardrobe-staple upgrades.

1. DISCO BELTS

Style Notes: Dresses and springtime go hand in hand, but there's no need to invest in an abundance of new frocks to feel fresh for the season ahead. Instead, add a gold chain belt, and your dresses will feel revitalised.

2. ICY COATS

Style Notes: Spring might be well and truly on the horizon, but let's face it: This is Britain, and we'll probably still be wearing our coats until May. Give your outerwear a springy overhaul by investing in a light pastel coat. I recommend ice blue.

3. SKIRT SUITS

Style Notes: Co-ords have been more popular than ever over the past couple of years, but with lockdown behind us, now's the time to embrace the ladylike skirt co-ord, which is making a comeback for spring. Look for bouclé or tweed textures, and wear them with loafers or slingbacks.

4. CROPPED SHIRTS

Style Notes: As temperatures continue to rise, I suggest considering investing in the shirt trend of 2022: a cropped shirt. Whether worn with your fail-safe denim or layered over a bikini on the beach, cropped shirts are synonymous with warm-weather style.

5. FLAT CLOGS

Style Notes: If the last two years have taught us anything, it's that dressing comfortably is key, and this is easily the most comfortable shoe to invest in for spring. Cropping up all over my IG feed, flat clogs are the fashion person's shoe of choice right now and will give your spring outfits an effortless feel.

6. KELLY GREEN

Style Notes: Although the Kelly-green fashion trend started at the tail end of last year, it's really gaining steam now that we're heading into spring. This vibrant shade of green is following me everywhere on social media and is slowly taking over my favourite new-in sections.

7. VERTICAL STRIPES

Style Notes: Stripes are a print that's taken up permanent residence on the style agenda, but this year, I'm noticing that vertical stripes are overtaking more common horizontal placements. I'm petite, so this is a switch I'm very much here for, as vertical stripes help to elongate my frame.
