On any given day, I'm usually wearing some combination of jeans and slingbacks, jeans and sandals, or jeans and sneakers. (Can you tell I love jeans?). But sneakers, in particular, have been on my mind lately as I've been eager to add some fresh new styles to my wardrobe to give my jeans outfits (or any outfits for that matter) an of-the-moment look.

While I'm very much a shoe person, I wouldn't say sneakers are my specialty, so I went on a deep dive (I'm talking weeks of research analyzing everyone from celebrities to the street style set.) to unearth what styles, brands, aesthetics, and silhouettes are dominating the fashion scene this season.

Below, I'm sharing six styles setting the tone for sneaker trends this spring. These are unquestionably the perfect silhouettes to make your jeans look very 2024. Keep scrolling to see and shop the trends.

Adidas Soccer Sneakers

Without a doubt, Adidas soccer sneakers have dominated sneaker trends this season (and perhaps for this entire year). The Samba and Gazelle styles are particularly popular, often featuring in every cool outfit I save on Instagram. I see them in a variety of colorways, along with styles from brand collaborations like Gucci and Wales Bonner.

These cool kicks have a huge fan base that includes celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, and Gigi Hadid, to name only a few. They're unquestionably the perfect option to pair with loose jeans for a casual and trend-forward spring look.

I've seen a huge rise in hiking-style sneakers thanks to the gorpcore aesthetic. Celebs such as Hailey Beiber and Bella Hadid have backed the trend along with a slew of street-style stars. Lean into the latest "dad" sneaker trend with brands such as Saloman and styles like Nike's ACG Air Mada.

While New Balance sneakers have been popular among the style set for the past few seasons, the 550, a late '80s basketball style, is stealing the limelight now. Spotted on celebrities like Gerber and Laura Harrier and a host of fashion influencers, this retro-meets-sporty silhouette is one of the coolest sneaker styles you can wear with jeans.

The fashion set and celebs have been all over '80s high-top sneakers, especially basketball styles. I even spotted the silhouette on the runways. At its S/S 23 show, Coach paired high-top sneakers with oversize leather coats and dresses. Style them with loose jeans and a bomber jacket for an indisputably cool and trend-forward look this spring.

From Asics's Gel-Kayano to New Balance's 530, retro running shoes from the '90s are trending hard for spring 2023. No longer reserved for working out, the fashion crowd has been wearing them with everything from sleek maxi skirts to tailored trousers and, of course, basic jeans. They're ideal for running around town in style.
