You know us—we like to stay ahead of the curve. From microtrends to the biggest A/W 17 catwalk looks, we're always keen to know what the next big thing is. That lust for the latest style predictions also extends to sneakers, which have become integral to any fashion lover's wardrobe. Sure, you've got your Stan Smiths, your Converse high-tops, and your classic Vans in your wardrobe, but what about the next trainer trends that everyone is going to wear next season?
We spoke to global fashion search platform Lyst about the increase in searches for specific trainers, which would indicate the next big sneaker trends for the coming season. There were definitely a couple of surprises, but happily, there were both affordable and designer versions on the list. Want to get ahead of the sneaker game for the new season? Keep scrolling for the five biggest trainers you need to know about.
Nike Air Max '97
If you're a sneakerhead, then this will come as no surprise, not to mention the fact that Bella Hadid has been spotted wearing a similar pair. According to Lyst, there's been a huge spike in searches for Nike Air Max '97s, with an increase of 40% on searches month over month.
Such a wearable trainer that will go with practically anything in your wardrobe, the Campus sneakers are great if you're bored of your Stan Smiths. Thanks to Adidas releasing the rose-coloured versions this month, Lyst saw a 31% increase in traffic to the product page.
Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner wear this trainer in many different shades on the regular. Over the last two weeks, this trainer has "remained in the top five visited women's sneaker pages," according to Lyst. While the site says that the white and rose-gold versions are particularly popular, we say the black iterations are chic too.
Alexander McQueen Velvet Trainers
The curveball on this list is the Alexander McQueen velvet sneakers (although we did report back in 2016 that you'd be seeing a lot more of them). While the designer label isn't as known for its trainers, this pair is being "viewed on average once every five seconds" on the Lyst site.
Okay, everyone's probably already wearing these, but it's good to know that the Gucci trainers are still going to be popular in the seasons to come. Lyst revealed that these have remained in the top three selling women's trainers over the last six months. If you've already invested, then pat on the back for you. But if you've not, then you can shop them right now and feel confident they will last next season and beyond.
