10 Standout Sandal Trends That Will See You Through the Summer

If you are still on the hunt for the perfect pair of sandals, the summer sales and new holiday drops mean this is a perfect time to find 'the one'. Many of us choose to invest in one new pair of sandals a year, so before you decide on which to go for, we looked through thousands of pairs to put together what's basically a dissertation on 2019's sandal trends.

Some old favourites are back again (hi, dad sandals, tan leather slides and raffia styles), but we've also added some new additions to our list. The trend fashion buyers seem to have backed the most this year is strappy sandals. This was undeniably started by The Row, but every designer we can think of has delivered their own interpretation of the '90s trend. There are over 300 results for this on Net-a-Porter, and Topshop's bargainous strappy sandals sold out within days of their release.

Another sandal style that feels fresh and has a similar barely-there look is mules, as By Far, Prada, ATP Atelier and Kalda have created Carrie Bradshaw–esque heeled sandals. If you want something a little more practical, then you might be tempted by velcro sandals. We have Prada to thank for the revival of spongey, velcro platforms—the £420 on logo-emblazoned pair have now sold out everywhere. Hiking sandals brand Teva has had a quick shift in reputation, and in the UK, the £60 sandals are now selling very quickly on ASOS and Urban Outfitters this month. 1. Tan Leather Sliders

A pair of tan leather sliders always look expensive—whether you go for a pair of Hermès Oran sandals or Saint Laurent Tribute Nu Pieds or a high-street version. Dune's and Zara's tan sandals have become classics they release every year.

2. Strappy Sandals

Whether you call them floss heels, naked heels, strappy heels, this is arguably the leading sandal trend of the year. The Row started the return of the skimpy stiletto, and now every brand we can think of has its own version of barely there sandals.

3. Mules:

Another key sandal trend is low-heel mules with either a kitten or chunky heels. This is a shoe finding its feet (excuse the terrible pun) on Instagram, as By Far, Prada and Mango are just a few of the brands that have created cult mules.

4. Raffia and Woven Sandals:

You might not wear these sandals to the office, but these are perfect for anyone going on a beach holiday. We particularly love ASOS's £22 raffia sandals.

5. Strappy Flat Sandals

We don't know the exact name for this sandal trend, but we keep spotting a lot of flat leather sandals with very thin straps contorting around the foot in interesting loops. Lucy Williams's sandals above are by Tibi, but we've also found an amazing pair at Arket for £125.

6. Gold Sandals

Gold sandals might seem like a very flashy Carrie Bradshaw–style shoe, but they are actually a staple for many Parisian style icons famed for their low-key style. French brands like Rouje and Sezane are championing gold sandals this summer.

7. Grown-Up Logo Sandals

Flashy logo-emblazoned sandals have been flooding our Instagram for several years now, however, this year they are more polished and grown up. We can imagine Meghan Markle wearing Givenchy's black leather slides and Chloé's C mules might be the most elegant sandals we've seen this year. And trust us—we've seen a lot of sandals.

8. Sporty Sandals

This trend is bound to divide opinion. These sporty sandals have a lot of Velcro, spongey platforms and racer-detailing. We have Prada to thank for this one, thanks to the above £420 pair.

9. Flip-Flops

Ah, flip-flops. They might give you horrible blisters in between your toes and get caught under other people's shoes constantly, but they're back in a big way. Last summer, the Scandinavian crowd were wearing colourful rubber Havaianas, however, there are lots of leather versions this year from Staud and Tkees.

10. Super-Chunky Sandals

Dr. Martens's chunky-soled sandals are making a grand return this year, following on from the skyrocketing success of the 1460 boots and 1461 shoes. These are the perfect city sandals for when you don't want your feet to feel too exposed.
