The First Red Carpet of 2017 Proves Ruth Negga Is One to Watch

It's the first day back to work (and changing out of pyjamas) for most. However, for the Hollywood set, it's less of dragging yourself into the office and all about embarking on the first of the 2017 award season red carpet appearances. No biggie, right? Last night the likes of Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams and Natalie Portman attended the first red carpet of 2017, the Palm Springs Festival Awards Gala. But it is the recipient of the Rising Star Award, Ruth Negga, who has us really excited about the many upcoming red carpets in her dreamy Valentino Couture gown.

While you might not have heard of the Irish-Ethiopian actress, her career is about to take a steep rise, thanks to a number of nominations for her role in Loving. Anna Wintour is backing her as a key style star for 2017, and in an unlikely move, she put the relatively unknown industry-name actress on the cover of American Vogue's first issue of the year.

And Ruth didn't disappoint at her first high-profile outing of 2017, wearing a dove-grey, sheer Valentino gown with breathtaking whimsical embellishments and a low sweeping neckline. Without a doubt, she bagged the best dress of the night. And with stylist Karla Welch—who also works with Karlie Kloss, Olivia Wilde and Katy Perry—in her glam squad, something tells us this will be her first of many best dressed list wins this year.
