The Dress Taking Over London Is Your New Layering Tool

A see-through dress as your new essential? Hear us out. Preen's goth princesses, in their thrifty combinations of flashy sequinned skirts, outsized silk-satin blouses, frilled black trousers, slouchy knitwear and plaid posh-punk coats, wouldn't be the same without the brand's ever-popular and ever-evolving dresses. Once upon a time Preen hit the scene with bandage frocks of highest bodycon order; nowadays it's all loose cuts, asymmetric hemlines and billowing chiffon patchworked into the easiest fling-on look-amazing styles. And for autumn/winter 2016, these took yet another new turn with many of them arriving sheer or semi-opaque in order to be used as a laissez-faire layering tool. With the general catwalk's continued approach to styling–that's maximal and mismatched by the way–this is one trend we've seen already bubbling up on the pavements as well.

Take last night's presentation of Molly Goddard's intricate tulle dresses–they're a street style smash and on many an adventurous shopper's list. Preen's take on the idea is less frothy, more fierce–simply throw on over whatever you want (jeans, party skirts, slips, the works) and go. A trick worth taking when the weather is up and down and individuality is king.
