Nylon is practically synonymous with Prada. Back in the '80s unlike any other of the power fashion houses, which predominantly worked with leather, the brand managed to turn this material into a must-have accessory. Miuccia Prada launched the nylon backpack in 1984, and while this particular style remains a hit there are two '90s and '00s bags that continue to be incredibly popular among the fashion crowd: the Nylon and Saffiano bags.
True, the early noughties were a very different time. Paris Hilton was one of the world's most talked-about celebrities, Destiny's Child was the band everyone had on their portable CD players and Brad Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. And although there are plenty of trends we'll happily leave in that decade (hipster jeans, we mean you), the aforementioned Prada bags are still pieces we'll wear today.
In 2018, Dior saw major success when it reissued its iconic saddle bag, and now Prada has followed its lead by reissuing its instantly recognisable nylon bags. While this '90s/'00s trend has been bubbling away for some time, it wasn't until 2020 that we saw the bag make a huge comeback. Lyst, the global fashion search platform, confirmed it as much revealing that the Prada nylon mini bag was the third most-wanted designer bag at the end of last year, just behind Chanel's classic flap bag and Louis Vuitton's monogram bucket bag.
Over the past year, we've spotted it slung over the shoulders of celebrities, It girls and influencers—including Dua Lipa, Elsa Hosk, Lucy Williams and Monikh—there's no denying Prada's relaunch has been a success. The bag also happened to be one of the most ubiquitous staples seen in street style images from New York Fashion Week in early 2020 (when we still went to shows, of course). Now all that's left to do is keep scrolling to see how a few fashionable women are styling the bag, and then shop the reissued style below.
