If something is trending on Pinterest, you know it's a big deal. Why? Well, this heavyweight social media platform appeals to a very wide audience—so if a supposedly niche fashion idea is booming here you can bet your bottom dollar that it's poised to become a top-line trend for everyone in no time. This is currently happening with the 1980s—a controversial comeback that started as a micro-movement at the beginning of 2016 and has been gathering apace ever since.
This decade is, essentially, picking up where the '90s revival left of (it may be time to put down the choker), and considering catwalk designers have now turned their attentions to the era that time forgot, perhaps it's no surprise that these a new take on the '80s is filtering into everyday wardrobes across the globe; posts have gone up by a whopping 87% in the past year.

The Pinterest 100 is essentially a heads-up list on what's going to be big news next year, including everything from food fads (watch out for naan pizza) to hobbies (ceramics are everyone's new favourite pastime, by the looks of things).
