4 Completely Joyful Party Outfit Ideas From the Who What Wear Team

Uttering the words party outfits is enough to make some people break out in a cold sweat. From office events to family reunions, as well as catching up with friends you haven't seen for a while, there are plenty of reasons to dress up. But what if you don't know where to start or, in fact, hate the thought of having to really consider what to wear when all you want to do is curl up in front of a fire and drink a bucket of hot chocolate? While there are plenty of potentially daunting situations that arise at this time of the year (bumping into old significant others, political chats with uncles, friends popping 'round with last-minute unreciprocated gifts), your wardrobe shouldn't be one of them.

Luckily at Who What Wear, we need very little encouragement on the festive-dressing front, which is why we thought we'd give you our fail-safe party outfit ideas. From dresses to chunky knits, with a few sparkles in between, we've got four unique looks that everyone can feel comfortable in while still feeling festive. We all have different personalities and personal styles, but we can agree on one thing: Now is the time to have fun with your fashion choices. Hannah Almassi, Editorial Director

"I'm so reliant on printed dresses all year round, and that doesn't change for the festive season. I often wear the same printed dresses in the day with boots and a roll-neck as I will come party time with bare legs, sandals and just more makeup! This one feels particularly festive thanks to the red running through it, but I'm always pretty matchy-matchy when it comes to accessorising, and I tend to tame a bold dress with black add-ons."

On Hannah: Rixo London dress (available in-store at The Shop at Bluebird); No.21 Crystal-Embellished Waist Belt (£235, available in-store at The Shop at Bluebird); Alexander Wang Mini Roxy Bucket Tote (£585); Alexandre Birman Chunky Heel Knot Sandals (£514)

Isabel Mundigo-Moore, Associate Social Media Editor

"To paraphrase Martine Mccutcheon in Love Actually, 'if you can't dress like your inner Liberace at Christmas, when can you, eh?'"

On Isabel: Shrimps Rory Coat (£795); Asceno Button Up Pyjama Top (£160) and Pyjama Bottoms (£155); Alexandre Birman Clarita Velvet Sandals (£400, available in-store at The Shop at Bluebird)

Emma Spedding, Deputy Editor

"When it comes to eveningwear, I never like feeling too 'done' and so often leave dresses in my wardrobe. I prefer to wear them during the day. I'm not a sequins-and-feathers kind of girl, so instead I opted for a sleek silk robe gown (kimonos are everywhere right now). It looks expensive and extra special, but it feels relaxed when worn open like a coat over a black knit and pair of straight-leg jeans. It's a totally London-proof outfit, as you can add the robe to your outfit at your desk, and you're instantly partified. As for the heels, I go for low block heels so I won't be that person at the office party complaining about my feet before finishing the Christmas pudding. Bouncy hair and a red lip are also my go-to party moves."

On Emma: Red Valentino Arm Tie Detail Sweater (£325) and Ankle Strap Block Heel Pumps (£325); M.i.h Jeans Cult Cropped Jeans (£185); Galvan Robe Duster Coat (£1485)

Elinor Block, Assistant Editor

"My favourite place to be at a festive party is on a couch having a drunken catchup with an old friend or dancing to 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' (original version, thanks). I have no in-between. For that reason, I like to do a blend of two different styles for my party outfit: cosy and sparkly. As sequins are everywhere right now and her show was easily one of my favourites of the season, I'm very into this Rejina Pyo skirt. Then, I pair it with an Isabel Marant jumper, as who else does chicer knitwear? I know I'll also get a load of extra wear out of both pieces. Finally, I wear block heels, as my feet won't last the night in stilettos."

On Elinor: Isabel Marant Farren Cropped Jumper (£550); Rejina Pyo Sasha Sequin Pencil Skirt (£655); Rupert Sanderson Velvet Pumps (£455)
