Given the fact we're currently in the midst of a summer heatwave, it might sound strange to be talking about boots. Though autumn is not too far away, with it will come a whole host of new seasonal trends to explore and analyse. If the runways are any indication, over-the-knee boots will be the number one footwear hit of the season, as the shoe style was seen throughout the autumn/winter 2020 shows, spanning Proenza Schouler, Victoria Beckham, Bottega Veneta and Khaite. Often featuring angular square toes and mid-level heels, this season, we've seen the silhouette lengthen from year's past when knee-high boots were ever-present.
Heather Gramston, head of womenswear at Browns Fashion, also agrees that over-the-knee boots are having a moment. Speaking of the autumn/winter 2020 runway shows, Gramston explained, "A personal favourite of mine are the thigh-high leather square-toe boots from Bottega Veneta. As always, Bottega Veneta lived up to the hype, and Daniel Lee did not disappoint."
In terms of styling, on the runway, the thigh-high boots were often paired with knee-skimming skirts and dresses, chunky knitwear and oversize jumpers. Keep scrolling to see how over-the-knee boots were shown on the runway, and then shop the trend below.
