I've worked in fashion for over two decades, and despite a constant flurry of new trends and styles, when it comes to truly dressing for your own wants and needs, what I come back to again and again is a collection of staples that help bring my capsule wardrobe together. Each season, I like to invest in a few considered pieces that will stand the test of time as well as top up my selection of good-quality basics. This January, I've crafted an edit of pieces, just for you, made up of items I either already own and love or that I want to invest in this season. From a timeless trench coat to the perfect white tee, these pieces will be my go-to as we transition from winter to spring.

1. The Denim Shirt

I invested in this Khaite denim shirt, as it's a staple that will last forever. The heavy denim and oversized fit make it super flattering and wearable under a coat in winter but also perfect as a light jacket when it gets a bit warmer.

2. The Trench

Another favourite of mine, Totême is a brand that keeps getting better and better. In my opinion, a really good trench is essential in a capsule wardrobe. It's the perfect transitional-weather piece, goes with everything and is a classic that will last forever.

3. The Skirt

I have been searching high and low for a maxi satin skirt, and as green is one of the colours of the season, when I found this Topshop style, I ordered it straight away. It also has an elasticated waist, so it is super comfy. I love wearing mine with an oversized jumper and boots.

4. The Leggings

One item I feel is missing from my wardrobe is a pair of good-quality black leggings. So this season, I want to buy a pair that has built-in support to give my bum a bit of a lift! I have heard great things about these Commando leggings, so they are next on my list.

5. The White Shirt

I firmly believe a good-quality white tee is essential, but I don't like to spend too much, as I wear mine out quite regularly! I like to keep my tees looking fresh, so I tend to buy one or two a year. My go-to is Arket, as it has really good-quality T-shirts at a great price.

6. The Striped Knit

Stripes are a must in my wardrobe, and I have fallen deep for this fisherman's jumper from Jigsaw. The perfect knit to wear with jeans or to throw over a dress, this one has my name written all over it. It also comes in a cream-and-green stripe colourway, which is equally as delicious.

7. The Socks

Falke makes the best socks, and I received these red ones from my mum for Christmas. Using accessories to add a bit of colour is a great way to introduce playfulness into a minimal wardrobe. I'll be wearing mine with slingbacks for a modern edge.

8. The Sweatshirt

Raey is one of my favourite brands, and this sweatshirt was a recent addition to my wardrobe. The oversized silhouette looks good with everything, and it is so cosy. I have the navy, but I have my eye on the grey as well. Maybe that will be coming my way too!

9. The Heels

I love heels, but I struggle to wear them, as they're so painful. Comfort is everything for me, so kitten heels are a great compromise. But I find a great pair of heels can really elevate a simple outfit. These ones are divine and are on the top of my wish list. I'd wear them with straight-leg jeans, an oversized tee and a blazer.

10. The Camel Coat

A camel coat is a capsule wardrobe classic, and I love the look of this one from H&M. The simple, minimal aesthetic looks way more expensive than it is. I'd style with loafers, a crisp white shirt and jeans to give cool, Parisian, Caroline de Maigret vibes.

11. The Flannel Shirt

Checked flannel shirts are set to be a big trend this year after Kate Moss took to the runway in a blue check shirt at the S/S 23 Bottega Veneta show. This H&M version is perfect in my eyes, and I’ll be wearing with it jeans, heeled boots and an oversized slouchy bag.

12. The Blazer

I'm a bit obsessed with houndstooth tweed at the moment. I think it was the Versace A/W 22 show that did it for me. I love this oversized Anine Bing jacket that I'd style with jeans and pointed heels.

13. The Statement Coat

I've been looking for a long leather coat for a while, and this Nour Hammour beauty has caught my eye. I love the fitted waist, which gives it a sleek edge. And the shearling collar is also removable, so I'd say it's like buying two for the price of one! Well worth the investment for me.
