Right now, sneaker lovers fall into two camps: Either you're a die-hard dad trainer fiend who opts for the boldest and "ugliest" styles, or you're a stickler for the classic minimalist look that will work with everything in your wardrobe. When it comes to the latter group, Stan Smiths still have their place, but more recently, other brands championing pared-back styles have been on the rise.
Veja is just one brand that exploded last year thanks to being worn by the likes of Emma Watson, Meghan Markle and a load of fashion influencers. However, there's one other pair of canvas shoes that are also doing the rounds, and I predict it's going to be big: Novesta plimsolls (most notably the Star Master style).
Although the Slovakian label has been going since the 1930s, I've only recently discovered the shoes after seeing them on the likes of minimalist Instagrammers such as Lizzy Hadfield of Shot From the Street. The most popular style I've seen so far is a white iteration with a brown rubber sole, although there are plenty of other options.
After doing some research, I found that the brand is dedicated to being environmentally friendly with its manufacturing practices and materials—a big win for fashion brands right now, with consumers being savvier about their effect on the environment.
But this is still fashion, so you should know that this sneaker is a great choice for minimalists and looks incredibly chic. Whether you wear them with wide-leg black trousers, a plain slip dress, a beige blazer or a white shirt, these are the latest trainers to become a wardrobe staple.
