If there's one woman whose brain we'd like to pick when it comes to personal style, it's Nicole Richie. Not only is the style maven known for always being impeccably dressed, but she has a reputation in the fashion world for being 150 per cent herself, for bucking trends and starting them, and generally not giving a damn whether or not she's pleasing anyone else.
“You should never feel bad about yourself because the trend everyone is wearing doesn’t fit you," Richie tells Glamour. "There’s nothing cooler and more attractive than being 100 per cent authentically you. As long as you’re doing that, you’re winning.”
?She goes on: "If I don’t want to wear high heels, then I’m not going to. I’m 5’1”. Even if I wear five-inch heels, what’s the tallest I’m going to be, 5’6”? Who’s that scaring? Nobody. So I’ll wear flats and just be full-blown in my shortness rather than try to be somebody I’m not. And there are plenty of outfits that I’ll try on and be like, ‘Wow. This is a beautiful, sick, sexy dress. This would look much better on somebody taller than me.’ And that’s fine."
We might sum up Richie's fashion advice as follows: Don't let fashion rule you; instead be the boss of your own wardrobe and style. And we couldn't agree more!
