5 Jewelry Trends I Hardly Ever Wear Anymore (and 5 I've Been Favoring Instead)

I don't like to switch up my jewelry very often (I can go months and even years wearing the same exact pieces every day), so it’s pretty telling when I do decide to either adopt a new item, retire a trend, or do both at the same time. Spoiler alert: Such is the case with the 10 categories you’re about to see below. Five are ones I realized I hardly wear anymore, while the other five have managed to sneak into my day-to-day outfits more often than not. While none are that out-there to begin with (since I do have admittedly simple style), these little changes have made me feel just a bit more, well, current. To see which ones I’m putting on the back burner and shop what’s in my rotation instead, simply keep scrolling.

Instead Wear: Statement Chains

While I haven’t totally retired my (extensive) collection of layering necklaces just yet, I’ve definitely found myself opting for a chunky chain or two more often these days.

I'll probably be singing a different tune come summer, but for now, my shell necklaces, earrings, and bracelets aren't getting much action, while my pearl pieces somehow still feel as fresh as ever.

Hardly Wear: Cuff Bracelets

Instead Wear: Delicate Bracelets

At this point, I don’t think I even own any big cuff bracelets anymore, which is a good thing because the only bracelet styles I’m interested in at the moment are delicate. Think thin chains, tennis bracelets, charm bracelets, and more.

Hardly Wear: Stacking Rings

Instead Wear: Chunky Gold Rings

I always found stacking rings a bit difficult and uncomfortable, so it’s convenient that for the time being, I’m more into bigger, single rings anyway. Whether it's just one or one on each finger, the look is all over my feed right now and, as a result, very much on my mind.

Hardly Wear: Colorful Jewelry

Instead Wear: Metals and Neutrals

Colorful jewelry is another trend I definitely won’t be getting rid of, but it’s definitely on the back burner for now. Instead, as seen above, I’m opting for metals (mainly gold and silver) and neutrals, such as pearls.

Editor-at-Large

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2020, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch 90 Day Fiancé.
