Meet Mashu, the Sustainable Brand Making Bags From Pineapple Leaves

Here at Who What Wear, we're always on the lookout for stylish new labels to support, though one of our utmost favourite things is finding a new label that sits at the intersection of style and sustainability. So when I was introduced to Mashu, a London-based handbag brand, I knew I'd found something special.

Designed in London and produced by artisans in Greece, each Mashu bag is made with the environment in mind using sustainable vegan materials. Many of the bags in the brand's latest collection are made from either Pinatex (a leather alternative that is created using pineapple leaves) or vegan suede, which is made using recycled polyester. The brand also sources all of the wood used in its handles from a local furniture factory in Greece, using off-cuts that would usually be burned or discarded. Because of this, the pattern and grain of each handle often differs from bag to bag, meaning you are getting a product that is extremely unique.

Aside from its obvious environmental consciousness, it goes without saying that Mashu's bags are also visibly beautiful. Featuring architectural handles, interesting silhouettes and fresh, vibrant colourways, each bag is like a miniature piece of artwork in and of itself.
