We all know we can reliably turn to M&S for our everyday essentials, from underwear to affordable jeans and perfect white T-shirts. But every so often the brand hits us with a more statement, more trend-led look that encompasses their famously good quality, stylish design and an affordable price—and fashion people (in fact, most people) go wild for it. Remember the suede skirt debacle of 2015, where Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung were spotted wearing the brand’s midi at fashion week, and fights broke out at checkouts as desperate fashionistas searched for stock? That’s just one of the more infamous examples.

This week, as spring officially sprung, we’ve been blessed with an outfit that I’m predicting will also go down in history as some of M&S’s very best pieces. An incredibly chic, beige linen three-piece suit—consisting of a waistcoatblazer and pair of wide-leg trousers that are all equally good styled separately for more casual affairs as they are together for spring/summer events. So that’s versatility checked off.

Unsurprisingly, the linen suit is already garnering plenty of attention from influencers and editors alike. My interest was first piqued when I saw influencer, Francesca Saffari, styling the suit up for spring in the Instagram reel above and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that it was from M&S and not a luxury designer. Super-stylist to the stars, Angie Smith, has built a whole M&S capsule edit around the suit and has been showing her followers how to wear the pieces over on her feed (below). For reference, Angie wears a size 12, and we think it looks great with that slightly looser fit when sized up. And our very own shopping editor, Remy Farrell, tried on the waistcoat (below) with a trench coat, and identified it as one of the brand’s best spring pieces in our ongoing Great Try-On series

The buzz is real, people. Which also means the pieces are selling out fast. There’s still some sizes left, so don’t hesitate if you love it. Luckily, it’s not only versatile but also really classic, so you can be sure it will make a wise investment that you can wear for many years to come. If you’re out of luck, be sure to sign up for stock notifications as we’re hopeful that M&S will continue to restock the items throughout the season given their initial popularity.
