On the heels of winning the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design at the CFDA Awards this past Monday, the ladies behind cult-favourite handbag label Mansur Gavriel revealed that they have larger ambitions for the brand—clothing included. In fact, the designers—Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel—were wearing dresses of their own design at the event, giving us our first peek at what’s to come.
The women wore coordinating midi dresses complete with matching Peter Pan collars, in covetable shades of persimmon and coral. Paired with suede heeled sandals and clutches, also of their own design, the looks had that enviable quality of being both simple and incredibly cool. High-maintenance these girls are not. When asked about their choices, the designers had this to say:
“We have a very specific visual world in mind for the brand, so we were excited for the opportunity to create our own looks for the evening. We made the dresses in Italy, as well as our shoes and clutches. We’ve been developing clutches, [and we] do have plans, but not in the immediate future, [to launch clothing and shoes].”
Well if their outfits for the evening are any indication, you can bet that people will be lining up for their other products just as they do for their handbags. Fingers crossed that the launch happens sooner than they claim!
