Lupita Nyong'o's Best Looks During Award Season

Considering her rapid rise to fame, and the gruelling schedule of appearances, it is particularly remarkable that Nyong’o has consistently knocked it out of the park. Here are our favourite red carpet moments thus far.

Attending the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences' Governors Awards in November, Nyong’o wore a classic Prabal Gurung Resort 14 Tuxedo-Inspired Dress with white Christian Louboutin Batignolles 120 Python Pumps ($1165) and a neat Charlotte Olympia Domino Pandora Perspex Clutch ($1195).

At the 86th Oscars Nominees Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hilton, Nyong’o looked radiant in a pastel Christian Dior S/S 14 Satin Dress, which she chose to wear with blue and purple accessories. Her Paul Andrew Sapphire Heels ($675) and Dior Tee Shirt Earrings paired beautifully with her Judith Lieber Couture Clutch ($1995) in Plum.

At the NAACP Image Awards a week ago, Nyong’o received the Best Supporting Actress Award in a stunning Givenchy Pleated Stretch Viscose Jersey Dress ($4990) in Orange. To keep the look cohesive, she also wore Givenchy’s 100MM Metallic Leather Sandals ($866) in Orange and Givenchy’s Pre-Fall 14 Clutch and finished the look with a dramatic H.Stern Ancient America Gold Cuff ($25800).

Although this is not awards-season related, it did take place during the whirlwind of award season events so we think it counts. For the Los Angeles premiere of Non-Stop, Nyong’o chose this flirty and youthful Lanvin Strapless Lamè Dress ($4100) and accessorized with Sergio Rossi Metallic Pumps ($640) and Janis Savitt Diamond Arrow Earrings ($3740).

Peter Pilotto

For her appearance at the Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Awards Nominees’ Brunch, Nyong’o wore a casual daytime ensemble from Peter Pilotto. Nyong’o matched her Anya Hindmarch Clutch and white Sophia Webster Lola Pumps ($320) to the graphic blue and white Top ($1124) and Printed Shorts ($497).

At the IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City in December, Nyong’o paired her pristine Lanvin S/S 14 Strapless Dress with the designer’s satin pumps from the F/W 10 collection. Her jewellery was from Fred Leighton.

To accept the Best Supporting Actress statue at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Nyong’o chose a custom-made turquoise Gucci gown with an intricate floral neckline. She wisely kept her Fred Leighton jewellery minimal, so as not to compete with the bold neckline.

Ralph Lauren

At the Golden Globe Awards, Nyong’o stunned in Ralph Lauren’s red Audrey Cape Evening Gown ($7000). With a silhouette this bold, Nyong’o needed only a hint of lip colour and classic Fred Leighton jewellery.

At the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Brittania Awards in November Nyong’o opted for a delicate Lanvin Floor-Length Draped Stretch Dress ($4395) in Black and Cream. Given her typical affinity for bright colours and strong silhouettes, this showed a softer side of her style aesthetic.

J. Mendel

Following her appearance at the Late Show With David Letterman, Nyong’o was photographed in a structured J.Mendel Resort 14 Black Bustier, black pencil skirt, Christian Louboutin Geotistrap Pumps and Graziela White Diamond Earrings ($2900).

Elie Saab Couture

For the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala on January 4th, Nyong’o chose a coral brocade Elie Saab Couture shift dress, which shone against her dark skin, and accessorized with matching Christian Louboutin Gwynitta Patent Crisscross Sandals ($745).

J. Mendel

Attending the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Nyong’o wore a sunshine yellow J.Mendel Sleeveless Gown with Monique Pean’s Grey Ombre Fossilized Walrus Ivory Ring and Judith Leiber’s Fizzy Fullbead Crystal Clutch ($1995) in Silver. She echoed the hue of her dress with gold eyeshadow and finished the look with a bright, tangerine lip.

Peter Pilotto

Seen arriving at The Late Show With David Letterman, Nyong’o wore another printed confection from Peter Pilotto. She paired her Silk Graphic Dress ($1666), with coordinated mint Manolo Blahnik BB Pumps ($595) and Michael Nelson’s Box Lucy Box Clutch ($2395).

Stella McCartney

At the LoveGold event in her honour at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on February 26th, Nyong’o donned a cobalt Stella McCartney cutout dress, Christian Louboutin pumps, Elena Votsi Sun Earrings in Gold and Diamond (prices upon request and Sun Ring (price upon request gold ring, and a Rauwolf Brutalist Clutch ($2910) in Sapphire. She receives extra style points for the shock of cobalt eye shadow.
