Lucky Magazine revealed its February 2015 cover stars today, sharing the news on the magazine's website and Instagram page: In a bold and unexpected move, the issue features three superstar bloggers, Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad, Nicole Warne of Garry Pepper, and Zanita Whittington of Zanita.
Citing the digital democratization and ever-changing landscape of fashion, Lucky called its cover stars emerging fashion icons and referenced the new industry standard of bloggers sharing rows with editors at fashion shows. Editor-in-Chief of Lucky, Eva Chen, is well-known for her own robust social media following, and regularly shares pictures of herself with top fashion bloggers like Song of Style's Aimee Song and The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine, on Instagram.
Though the premier crop of bloggers are commercial successes themselves—a few months ago, Ferragni made headlines when Women's Wear Daily shared her annual revenue of $8 million dollars—it will be interesting to see how well the cover does from a sales standpoint. The magazine's decision to feature non-models or celebrities in the traditional sense for the first time ever is certainly a conversation-starting one, and a major milestone in terms of mainstream media giving credit to blogging as a powerful fashion career; however it's typically the more recognisable and controversial cover stars, like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on Vogue, that sell the most issues in the magazine world.
