No one wants FOMO, be it for a night out, a festival, a gig or an item of clothing. And I can’t help but feel I’ve been missing out on linen trousers for so many summers. The thing is, my steamer (from Steamery) is my best friend, I use it daily, and I take it on every single trip (even travelling around South East Asia). I steam everything before I wear it to keep the creases at bay. So the idea of linen trousers that crease easily freaks me out. This was until I saw so many of my favourite influencers wearing a pair, and I soon realised embracing creases is all part of the laid-back summer vibe.
The fact is you can also invest in a linen-mix pair that won't crease as much as the pure-linen counterparts. And while I always think of these particular trousers as being semi see-through white pairs, there are so many options, including black and pastel shades. Considering I've never worn linen trousers, I'm relying on Instagram to give me some hints on how they look best. Whether you style them with a swimsuit, bandeau top, matching shirt or going-out top, these are the six ways to style linen trousers for summer. And I'll be trying them all out.
1. Linen Trousers + Swimsuit
2. Linen Trousers + Matching Linen Top
Style Notes: Monikh is the queen of laid-back summer looks, and this proves why. Making linen trousers into a co-ord, the Who What Wear contributor keeps it relaxed with a carry-everything basket bag and chunky, flat sandals.
3. Linen Trousers + Light Knit
Style Notes: We all know sun isn't guaranteed for summer in the UK, so make like Marianne and wear a knit with your linen trousers for cooler days. Keep things on the summery side, though, and wear sandals.
4. Linen Trousers + Bandeau Top
Style Notes: The bandeau is back, be it a bikini, a dress or a top. And the way everyone is wearing the latter is by pairing it with equally fuss-free linen trousers. Keep it super chic like Sylvie did by going for a monochrome ensemble with gold accessories.
5. Linen Trousers + Party Shirt
Styles Notes: Short-sleeved shirts are having quite the moment. And want to know how to wear them? Bright, bold and sassy in a Hawaiian shirt–themed way, just like Nicole. This H&M version looks so good with pastel-pink linen trousers.
Style Notes: If you want to make linen feel dressier, team it with luxe-looking textures such as satin. Francesca wears her sleek wide-leg trousers with a Nanushka ruched top, and you can shop it on sale.
