The One Skirt That Will Instantly Elevate Your Look

It might sound strange to say this, seeing as we're edging ever-closer to spring, but leather is on its way to becoming 2020's fabric du jour. Usually something associated with cosy layers and luxe winter styling, leather has recently taken on a whole new character thanks to the likes of Nanushka and Bottega Veneta. No longer confined to biker jackets and bags, designers have adapted the material to create everything from dresses and tops, to skirts and shirts.

Out of the spring/summer leather lineup, we would probably cite the leather skirt as one of the most wearable trends. These 2020 iterations all come in a flattering a-line silhouette that is fitted at the waist and flares out, ending at the knee. While some are embracing a clashing finish with trainers and casual tees (we're looking at you, Alyssa), we generally think the easiest way to wear the trend is to keep it polished with heeled boots and tonal layers.

Marni's khaki button-down, for example, is simply begging to be worn with a slim fit, colour-matching roll neck, meanwhile, Kitri's '70s-inspired panelled number would lend itself to a chunky cable knit. It can even be a good option for the office (just make sure you keep the top half suitably smart—think a white shirt and trench coat). All set? Style Notes: Alyssa brings a laid-back finish to the trend with sneakers and a bomber jacket.

Style Notes: A dark blue roll-neck might not be an obvious addition to a black midi skirt, but it makes for a chic pairing—especially when you add knee-high boots.
