Lauren Conrad Tells The Truth About Her Style on 'The Hills'

For fans of the insanely popular MTV reality show The Hills, former star Lauren Conrad's latest interview with Elle is nothing short of revelatory. While the show has been endlessly criticised for being overly scripted, Conrad has made a rather surprising confession: she styled herself through its six-season duration.

"There was never any wardrobe involved with the show," Conrad says. "After several seasons, it was actually starting to get difficult because you didn’t want to wear the same outfit over again when you were filming. It’s funny because I look back at the amount I used to spend on clothes, and I can’t believe it. Some of the girls I think worked with stylists. If I had an event I would work with one, but for day-to-day shooting, it was all me. If I wasn’t filming, I was shopping."

She also confesses that when she looks back on footage from that time, she realises it wasn't her brightest fashion period.

?"I definitely wasn’t a trendsetter," she says of her style at the time. "The early 2000s were an interesting period for fashion. And as much as I get shivers when I look at photos from that time, I'm comforted by the fact that most people standing around me were doing the same thing. It wasn’t great, but I wasn’t alone."

In truth it's a bit refreshing to know Conrad was dressing herself through the run of the show; at least there were some aspects of it that were genuine. Head to Elle to read the rest of her revealing interview.
