I've Assembled 9 Failsafe Jumper-and-Trouser Outfits to Wear All Season Long

My sartorial needs right now are simple: to be warm and comfortable. So that means nothing is coming between me and my jumpers at the moment. Still, after pulling on my favourite cream cable-knit jumper for what feels like (and probably is) the 500th day in a row, I’m in need of some fresh inspiration on how to style it as we head into spring.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Jumper-and-trouser outfits are hardly groundbreaking—they’re one of the most basic combinations out there. But aren’t the simplest things always the most effective? I certainly think so. Putting jeans, leggings and joggers to one side, I was keen to discover how fashion people are assembling their jumper-and-trouser outfits for spring in an attempt to make my own ensembles more polished (though no less comfortable). And what I found was seriously impressive.

From foolproof pairings, including cable-knits with navy strides to the easy way to upgrade the black trousers you used to wear religiously to the office, scroll on to see nine jumper-and-trouser outfits that look beyond chic.

1. CABLE-KNIT + WIDE-LEG TROUSERS

Style Notes: The look I’m most impatient to re-create is this offering. A cream cable-knit with wide-leg trousers was always going to look elevated, but it's one that is versatile too. Add trainers for the weekend, boots for work and heels for a night out. Done.

2. OVERSIZE GREY + CARGO

Style Notes: Cargo trousers are having a moment, with those in the know opting to wear theirs with minimalistic heels and heeled boots for a glossy spin. Me? I’ll take cues from this look by adding a grey oversize knit into the equation.

3. STAPLE BLACK + LEATHER

Style Notes: Assuming you already own a basic black jumper, give it a directional spin by styling it with a pair of leather trousers. Mimi makes hers look even sleeker by pairing them with leather boots.

4. BRIGHT JEANS + SWEATSHIRT

Style Notes: You had to let us sneak in a classic blue jean look! This one is too chic not to share. A fine-knit roll-neck and shearling jacket make for a cosy pair, balanced out by straight-leg jeans and high ankle boots.
