Fashion Cues to Take From Jourdan Dunn's Best Outfits

In her own words, 2015 has been “#YearOfTheDunn”! The supermodel kick-started '15 with a Vogue cover and ended it with the highly prestigious award for Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, for the second time. Jourdan's credentials read like a fashion fairy tale: She's a firm fashion week favourite (FROW and catwalk), a Maybelline girl to boot, one of the faces of Burberry, and the centerpiece to Olivier Rousteing’s #BalmainArmy (all salute!).

At the BFA’s, the Creative Director of Balmain waxed lyrical about Britain’s newly crowned model du jour. "I'm going to tell you a story about her," he said, "it was four or five years ago, a significant show - the Balmain show that would save my life - the difficulty was finding a leader who had a really strong personality. I realised she was an Amazon of our time. She worked all night in very high heels and a really, really short dress," reports The Telegraph.

Dunn was first spotted whilst shopping with a friend at the age of 15; she made her runway debut for Marc Jacobs and has enjoyed a meteoric career ever since, taking a brief break in 2009 when she had her son, Riley.

The off-duty model knows how to spark headlines with thigh-grazing skirts, sky-scraper high heels and urbane separates, but it’s her cocktail hour apparel that’s really captured our attention. Jourdan describes her style as "lots of black and leather…Street meets chic!" We decode what makes Ms Dunn’s after-hours wardrobe a talking point for all of the right reasons and make notes of her clever outfit twists…

On Dunn: Mugler Bicolour Open-Back Dress (£1974).

Style Notes: Proving that less-is-more when it comes to dressing for a major event on your social calendar, Dunn opted for zero accessories and let her Mugler dress do the talking. Whilst doing the taxi dash, add a furry coat (worn over your shoulders) to keep out the winter chills.

Style Notes: A dress swap on a big night is totally standard to fashion pros. The model swapped her Mugler dress for this figure-loving number for the BFA after-party, but note that she didn’t add any further pieces to her outfit combination. Sometimes it’s about what you don’t wear… Leave the stole at home, don’t add that necklace, just ooze confidence. Word.

On Dunn: Topshop Unique Broadwick Pullover (£160) and Linard Mini Skirt (£595).

Style Notes: High-street picks can be elevated by wearing them your way. The model tucked in her Broadwick pullover to show off her figure and make sure the stunning detailing didn’t go unnoticed on her leather mini. A slicked-back hairstyle will give a high hemline worn during the daylight hours a chilled vibe.
