Exclusive: The Ultimate Boot Guide With Jimmy Choo

When it comes to cold-weather staples, boots are naturally the top of the list. Practically every fashion girl has a trusty pair of traipse-around-town ankle boots, but is your winter boot game up to par? This Los Angeles–based editor’s closet was certainly lacking in that department—not a warm or waterproof boot in sight. So when Jimmy Choo invited me to Switzerland along with some of the world’s top fashion bloggers to experience the brand’s famed winter boot collection firsthand, I jumped at the chance.

How to style all-weather boots:

“The Moon Boots (£675) are really flattering because you can wear them with something tight on [the] bottom like leggings or really skinny pants, and they balance out the rest of your body. Your upper body is naturally wider than your legs, so when you wear something bigger your feet like a big snow boot, it balances your proportions and gives an hourglass effect: wider on top, thinner in the middle and throughout the legs, and wide again at the feet.”— Evangeline Smyrniotaki

On Smyrniotaki:  Moncler jacket; And Other Stories turtleneck; Perfect Moment pants; Jimmy Choo Moon Boot Classic (£675).

A trick for keeping your feet warm in boots:

“Definitely don’t buy a size too small in boots, because then your feet will get cold. You need room for a thick sock, but what’s really important is having a little room for air in the boot. When there is a little space, your feet end up much warmer. I spend all my New Years Eves near Munich, so I learned how to dress for the cold there.”— Nina Suess

On Suess: Rubinaccio 1990 fur; Isabel Marant sweater; Lala Berlin pants; Jimmy Choo Moon Boot Classic (£495); Andy Sunglasses.

How to elongate your legs in boots:

“Since I’m Brazilian and curvy, my tip for looking your best is to wear black leggings with black boots like the Moon Boots Buzz (£475). If your pants blend directly into your boots, it makes one continuous vertical line for the eye to follow, which has a lengthening effect.”— Camila Coutinho

On Coutinho: Sam jacket; Zara sweater; 3am pants; Ralph Lauren vest; Jimmy Choo Moon Boot Classic (£675) and Jen/s 55 Sunglasses

The outfit to avoid when styling your boots:

If you are going to wear big boots, it’s important to keep the rest of the outfit simple and not voluminous. So if you were to wear big boots, big pants, and a big jacket, the proportions are too big so you lose your shape. Avoid that, and instead opt for something like a fitted pant and an oversized jacket.” — Aimee Song

On Song: Mason Scotch jacket; Vince sweater; J Brand pants; Reformation scarf; Jimmy Choo Andy Sunglasses; Ditto Flat Boots (£850); Lockett Petite (£895).

The best boot length for your body type:

“If you are on the thinner side, Moon Boots Classic (£575), which come closer to your knee work best, because they make your legs look even longer and slimmer. If you are curvier, then the shorter ones like the Moon Boots Buzz (£475) work well because from the ankle up you get to see more leg.”— Doina Ciobanu

On Ciobanu: Matthew Williamson coat; Fendi dress; Jimmy Choo Moon Boot Classic (£575), Nita Sunglasses, and neck warmer.

The importance of quality when buying boots:

I would go for a good quality all-weather boot because otherwise it won’t last long since they’re exposed to the elements, and you might end up spending more in the long run replacing lower quality boots more often.”— Sofie Valkiers

On Valkiers: Andrea Bogosian cape; Tommy Hilfiger sweater; Nekkie pants; Jimmy Choo Moon Boot  (£495).

What to look for when shopping for all-weather boots:

“I would pick leather over suede, because suede is tricky with rain and harder to maintain. I would go for a little heel for height and for colors, your best bet is to go for brown or black, depending on the style you are looking for. Brown boots can be beautiful in fall, and black boots can be cool in winter with skinny leather pants.”— Charlotte Groeneveld

On Groeneveld: Jimmy Choo Dana Boots (£895) and Cindy Sunglasses (£260).

The boot style that’s going to be huge:

“Lace-up boots are something that we will be seeing a lot. It’s kind of like a track boot, and something that I think we will be seeing a lot this season actually. A lot of brands have done something similar, but what I like about the Jimmy Choo ones is that they’re quite narrow, so it makes them more feminine.”— Pernille Teisbaek

On Teisbaek: Bruuns Bazaar knit; SOS pants; Jimmy Choo Ditto Flat boots (£850) and Andy sunglasses
