The Jeans Trends You Need to Take Note of for 2020

Whether you're a loyal skinny-jeans lover or a straight-leg convert, jeans are, for most of us, the lifeblood of our wardrobes. Able to be elevated with heels and a nice top or dressed down with a white tee and boots, they have got to be one of the most versatile and hardworking items we own. So really, finding the perfect pair should be at the top of your shopping priority list.

As it's such a staple, we don't like being too prescriptive about which styles you should buy, however, if you're in the market for a new pair in 2020, there are certain fits that are sure to get you the nod of approval from fashion folk. At the top of the list has to be flares, the '70s staple which was all over the runways at fashion week. Leg-lengthening and personality packed, they're perfect for a more polished evening look.

There are also plenty of classics: Think black skinny jeans, which are ideal for tucking into boots, straight legs, for '80s-inspired appeal, and the waist-whittling powers of wide-leg denim. Scroll down to see and shop our full edit of 2020's biggest denim trends.

The Flare

Style Notes: This is my favourite denim style for 2020. I wear mine on a weekly basis with tucked-in blouses and heeled boots for a throwback, leg-lengthening appeal.

The Black Skinny

Style Notes: This might not be the most groundbreaking offering on the list, but the humble black skinny jeans have had a bit of a resurgence this season. Fashion girls have been wearing theirs with chunky knits and tucked into knee-high boots.

Style Notes: A super wide-leg jean might sound intimidating, but in fact, if you stick to a style that is fitted high on the waist, it can be very flattering. Cinch in the waist with a belt and tuck in your top to avoid looking too shapeless.

'90s Boot-Cut

Style Notes: One of the more divisive denim trends, the '90s bootcut won't be for everyone, but it's a fun option if you're in need of a less ubiquitous jean silhouette. Make like Leia and style yours with boots and a cropped jacket.

The Straight Leg

Style Notes: Yes that's right—straight-leg jeans are here to stay. An icon of '80s fashion, this ridgid, slim-fitting style is one of the more versatile offerings. Our favourite iteration for 2020, however, comes in white.
