Despite fashion’s glamorous reputation, working within this world is not exactly a breeze—its fast-paced, ever changing and asks A LOT of its movers and shakers in very short periods of time. Though there are some lovely perks, and it’s usually a passion for those involved, there’s no one in the business who would deny being super stressed out from time to time.
With spring (and the joys that come with it) finally here, we decided to check in with some of our favourite fashion figures to find out how they escape their work lives and press the reset button after a long and busy winter!

"My favourite escape is Palm Springs... But I shy well away from the city around Coachella. I love the local scene in the city: the senior citizens dancing at Melvyn's, the dive bar fish tacos, the baking heat. And the nearby Desert Hills outlet is a bonus!"
“When I need to escape and blow off steam, I like to run away to nature: Chile, Big Sur, Costa Rica or anywhere else off the beaten path. I totally disconnect, carry a backpack and have a full adventure of camping, surfing, hiking, fishing, and exploring villages. These are my ‘Nat Geo moments’!”
“Every summer I escape to Great Falls, Montana for a fly-fishing trip with my boyfriend and my dad. It's so insanely beautiful and serene out there, it's impossible NOT to relax and let go. We hike out to isolated spots and spend whole days on the river without seeing any other humans (though occasionally a badger or some elk). I basically count down to the trip all year long!”
“I'm at Typhoon Lagoon right now to surf totally perfect waves with my hubby, kids and a couple of our friends. We rent the wave pool every once in a while for a quick getaway. Closer to home, I have a giant trampoline in my living room. It’s such a fun way to blow off some steam with my kids.”

"When I'm in New York and need a quick fix, boxing at TriBeCa Sports Center and pilates are my saving grace. My favourite escapes are Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, the Amalfi coast and the south of France. Pretty much anywhere near saltwater is the ultimate healer."

"I know this seems strange but unwinding for me often involves creating a new kind of busy. One of my favourite relaxing activities (no joke) is having a big dinner party. I love large, elaborate meals with multiple dishes. Whether I am cooking for 3 people or 18, it will end up being the same amount of food, so why not just invite the 18? I generally start with a regional theme (suggested to me by my friends) and then I chart, shop, prep, cook and serve the meal. So, I would like to say that my unwinding pastime is cooking, but it's probably closer to catering."
"My favourite place to escape to is Montecito, my home town. My husband and I stay at the Four Seasons and the kids stay with my parents, so we get to completely shut down. It’s heaven!”

“I don't necessarily feel like I need to escape the industry—I think because I blog, as opposed to writing full time for a larger publication, the only time fashion is really in my face is during fashion week, which comes and goes pretty quickly in the grand scheme of things. I have recently taken to transcendental meditation, though, which I am nuts about and has no doubt helped me to let off steam and manage my stress. It sounds platitudinous but vacation is only really vacation when its first a state of mind, you know?”
"I love to go visit my friend at her barn to watch her ride and hang out with all the gorgeous horses. I'm dying to get a horse but am just too busy to have my own!"

“Working in fashion, and especially in digital, means definitive work hours don't exist, so I like to take a few trips a year to new places I've never been to. Last year, my husband and I went to Cartagena and Croatia. For a mini weekend escape, we like to go to Montauk in the off-season (late fall and early spring) where we go on hikes and have cosy dinners.”
“I go out to my house in Southampton to escape. There I can get away for a few days and recharge—it’s so quiet and peaceful, especially in the winter months, and I get the BEST night’s sleep out there!”
“We escape to our house in New Jersey—it's the antithesis of our life in New York. A kitchen we actually use, a sofa we relax on and a yard we tend to? Bliss!”
"I meditate everyday, so that's my daily escape and how I center myself. I also try to travel as much as I can with my family, even if it's a quick weekend away in upstate NY. When I have the time, we’ll take more exotic and inspiring trips, usually near a beach. I always like to book a trip directly after each show—travel plays a huge role in keeping me recharged and present."

“I think it depends on how much ‘steam’ has built up! For a quick fix, I go to i-Plaza Nail & Spa in TriBeCa which is always playing quiet jazz or French music, and has little ‘magicians’ whose massages make 20 minutes feel like 2 hours. But post-fashion month, when one is really knee deep in ‘steam,’ Amangiri or Amanyara are my two sanctuaries. The atmosphere, food and natural beauty of both places is always a great recharge for a drained battery.”
"I really love going to the southwest, especially on a road trip. When I don't have a lot of time to commit to escaping, I like to go somewhere in upstate New York."

"I love to go to St. Barths, hole up in a villa, try not to look at my phone and just immerse myself in my children and husband to unwind."

"My go-to for blowing off some steam is finding a special place in Central Park that’s not too crowded. Climbing a tree is always a good move—you have a nice view, and its invite only! I live right across the street from the park so it’s a quick way to have a 'woosah' moment. Eating makes me very relaxed, too! I live in Harlem, where so many amazing food spots are popping up now, making it super cosy to hang in the neighbourhood. Two yummy new favourites are Streetbird Rotisserie and Lolo's Seafood Shack, and they’re right across the street from each other, so it’s double fun for the soul."
“I don't need to travel very far to ‘escape’ because my family of three kids and my husband are completely uninterested in my line of work. So as soon as I come home everyday it's like being in another world where homework, cooking, laundry, family time, stories and art projects dominate.”
"Getting on a plane to anywhere or just having a picnic somewhere. The most important thing is that I’m together with friends and family, and that we are just talking and laughing a lot!"

"My husband and I have a house in upstate New York, close to Hudson, that is our ultimate escape from the stresses of the city. Once we're there, the heels come off and we spend our weekends reading, cooking and perusing the farmers markets and local antiques stores."
