Remember Shoulder-Robing? This Is What to Do With Your Jackets Now
Autumn has arrived in fashion land, and style-conscious ladies are pinpointing the ways they can start to nod to the season's arrival already. One such newly anointed phenomenon appears to have infiltrated the fashion week camps—both on and off the runway—and it's the idea of wearing your jacket or coat off your shoulders. Girls are putting their jackets on, then (kind of) taking them off—ideal for looking chic when commuting or going in and out of air-conditioned spaces, right?
Okay, so it may seem like a trend that doesn't allow you to simultaneously carry a clutch bag, order a flat white and hail a tax, but—bear with us—it does look rather louche and sophisticated, reflecting our continued interest in everything being off the shoulder, and it gives you a canvas for showing off your outfit underneath the outerwear. It was a key element of the hyped-up Balenciaga A/W 16 catwalk in Paris (therefore, it's going to be just as important in six month's time), plus layering pro/Australian blogger Margaret Zhang has been tooting its horn for over the past year or so. Hailey Baldwin's at it over in Los Angeles, but it's really coming into its own now that NYFW has kicked off. This is the new shoulder-robing—and we all know how quickly that went global.
