We're not going to lie to you: The whole tucking-trousers-into-boots thing is laden with off-beat fashion references you may not be keen on. Swashbuckling pirates do it. Puss in Boots would be nothing without it. There's plenty of said layering at any given Panto come Christmastime. But there are also some fantastic fashion moments that will counteract any naysaying out in the wider world.
Think of all the times Kate Moss has looked svelte over the years wearing knee-high boots pulled over ultra-skinny jeans, or the fact that right now there's a stylist that everyone's dying to work worth (that's Ursina Gysi), and she barely steps out into the public domain without wearing her pants like this. One of our favourite bloggers, Evangelie of Style Heroine, has been wearing her '80s-style formula below on repeat.
There are also numerous runway designers who are backing the styling move for A/W 17, particularly in French circles with the likes of Isabel Marant and Saint Laurent showcasing the combination. It may seem daunting, but the idea has already crept onto the streets. Kim Kardashian West has been trialling the idea through the past few months, as has Kendall Jenner. & Other Stories is launching a collab this week with rock star Kim Gordon, and the stonewash jeans are styled with black OTKs. There are fashion editors picking up on it, and we predict the look will be the most fashion-forward item on the fashion week street style agenda in a few weeks' time.
So keep reading to see the many ways you can tuck trousers into your boots.
Style Notes: Trust Giorgia Tordini to already have the Saint Laurent boots. She's worn them to modern perfection with her skinny black jeans and a tailored blazer. Copy and paste this immediately.

Style Notes: If you want a subtle approach, try this black-on-black slim-fitting ankle boot with matching skinny trousers.
Style Notes: Don't know how to smarten up your track pants or what to wear with them when it's raining and you're bored of sneaks? Well, KKW has the answer. Go for pointy ankle boots, and you'll be surprised at how much it lengthens your legs.
Style Notes: Here's Ursina Gysi, the woman leading the charge for the most extra boot-tucking in the fashion business. She's combining sassy OTKs with utility pants, and we can't help but like it.
