Oh, January. You never cease to make the new year feel pretty dismal and grey. It is tempting, then, to reach for your credit card and give yourself a full wardrobe makeover. Because buying a few new pieces is just what you need for a new year, new you kind of thing. But before you start purchasing clothing that you might not need, why not head to your wardrobe and shop it instead? Over the Christmas period, I decided to have a look at items I wasn’t wearing much and see how I could put new life into pieces I wear on repeat.
I also had a look at some of my favourite influencers for some winter outfit inspiration and what I could steal from them. The result was discovering seven new looks I can wear for the whole of the month that make me feel great and better yet tap into being a bit more sustainable for 2020. Keep scrolling to see what I’ll be wearing.
Style Notes: A chunky knit and a party dress is really my ideal combination. You get the fancy look on the bottom and comfort on the top.
Style Notes: There’s something quietly sassy about the knitted dress. To update it for 2020 wear a leather blazer and zip front boots.
Style Notes: Floral dresses are not going away anytime soon and I‘m loath to cast my summer dress aside just because it’s cold. Instead I’ll be wearing it with a roll neck, brightly-coloured socks and hiking boots.
Style Notes: How do you make a blazer feel fresh again? Add a belt bag, that’s how.
Style Notes: Roll-necks took a turn for the boldly-printed this season. Make it feel fresh again by digging out your old band tees (I’ve got a vintage Black Sabbath T-shirt that remains one of my favourites) and wear with jeans.
Style Notes: Sometimes it’s easy to forget about the simplest of outfits. A black blazer, white T-shirt and jeans is just one outfit I’ll be wearing, thanks to digging out my favourite blue denim.
Style Notes: If in doubt, just chuck on every black item you own and wear a bold-coloured bag to make it feel like a style statement.
