The Internet is obsessed with all things ‘90s so we figured we might as well feed the beast. Herewith, a roundup of the best-dressed TV characters from the era that gave us hemp chokers, stone-washed denim, and wallets on a chain. (In other words, the bar is set pretty low on this one, folks).
During the 10 seasons that Beverly Hills, 90210 was on the air, Kelly (Jennie Garth) went from spoiled rich girl to the show's sympathetic female lead (Brandon or Dylan, argh! who to choose?). Throughout it all, however, her wardobe remained feminine but never girly with lots of florals and mum jeans thrown into the mix.
Calice Embroidered Top ($470)
The Melrose Place ad exec (played by Heather Locklear) was business in the front, dastardly deeds in the back. As such, she favoured power suits with a whiff off steal-your-best-friend's-husband sex appeal.
The introspective teen (Claire Danes) at the center of My So-Called Life tapped into the era's grunge trend with oversized flannel shirts and chunky knits. While the look doesn't exactly scream seductive, it managed to lure Jordan Catalano into the breakroom for some downright steamy makeout sessions.
Long Sleeve Check Shirt ($60)
Bridget Clog ($325)
While Kelly relied on her cheerleader good-looks and Jesse opted for, er, festive vests, Lisa (Lark Voorhies) emerged as Saved By The Bell's resident style expert. She dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and rocked a wardrobe of loud prints and matching scrunchies.
Smith Sweater Dress ($297)
Seinfeld's lady pal (Julia Louis Dreyfus) pioneered a style that The New York Times' later dubbed "floral-and-tough". The look—flowing maxi skirts and dresses, denim vests, oxford loafers— has since enjoyed a comeback of sorts (see: Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony).
Straw-Detailed Penny Loafer ($970)
90s Blossom Maxi Dress ($43)
Monica (Courtney Cox) may have been a tightly-wound control freak (her words, not ours) but her sense of style always kept its cool with on-trend items like crop tops, A-line skirts, and tailored silhouettes that showed off her teensy frame.
Cropped Intarsia Jersey Top ($295)
Floral Lace Skirt ($497)
If "normcore" had been around back when Dawson and the gang were hanging out by the creek, Joey (Katie Holmes)—with her penchant for kakhi pants and GAP tank tops—would have been its postergirl.
Zaar Ribbed Tank ($95)
Traveller Pants ($178)
