Talk about belated FOMO! Last week, the e-commerce platform Lyst invited former Lucky editor Eva Chen and Into the Gloss and Glossier founder Emily Weiss to sit down for an intimate chat about their careers thus far. Naturally, they both doled out a lot of amazing advice for those interested in working in the fashion/beauty space, but they also revealed some funny anecdotes about their pasts. Our personal favourite? How the two ladies first met!
Eva was working as the beauty director of Teen Vogue when Weiss came on board as an intern. “I remember hearing about this super intern who was the most driven, pulled-together, freakishly smart girl in the world,” Chen told the audience. Weiss was so bold that she actually brought Chen her initial idea for Into the Gloss while still only an intern. Here’s how Weiss explained it to Chen during their recent chat:
“I didn’t even work for you! You didn’t have to talk to me, but you were like, ‘Sure, I’d like to know [about it],’ and the rest is history. So I’m glad you weren’t like, ‘That’s nuts, don’t do that.’ I’m happy you [said], ‘Yes! That’s great!’ So thank you.”
Moral of the story? Hustling’s important, but so are great mentors.
