Heart Prints

Though we generally avoid a smorgasbord of Valentine's Day stories come February, we must admit we're feeling a wee romantic this month. So romantic, in fact, that we've got not one, not two, but three fantastic V-Day inspired stories in the works-all of which, you're sure to love! First on our list: heart prints, a.k.a. the universal symbol for this Hallmark-driven holiday. Decorating everything from silky trousers to thigh-high tights, heart designs of all colours and sizes have officially transcended their cheesy associations for a high-fashion look that is undeniably stylish and certainly sweet. Whether you hope to make a lasting impression with that special someone or simply want to add some charm into your daily rotation, let us be the first to say: Heart-print pieces are a closet essential you'll want to Go Buy Now!

If you're not quite sold on the idea of heart prints, perhaps our exceptional runway and celebrity references will inspire you! At the Anna Sui S/S 12 show, we noted a number of spectacular ensembles featuring today's pattern du jour! Channeling the free-spirited vibe of the early '70s club scene in Paris, Sui fully embraced the youthful nature of heart prints, pairing the Floating Hearts Border Voile Dress ($497, 212.941.8406) with the Floating Hearts Border Voile Romper ($400, 212.941.8406) and Hearts Crew Socks ($15, 212.941.8406). The combination of hearts, bows, and stars adds up to one playful, anything-goes outfit fit for the fun and fabulous fashion girl. Heart prints are enjoying the spotlight off the runway too! During the Sundance Film Festival last week, Emma Roberts selected an ASOS button-up covered with tiny hearts, which she knotted at her waist and paired with Current/Elliott's The High Waist Skinny Jeans ($188) and Vince Camuto ankle boots. The resulting outfit is proof that hearts aren't always sweet, they can also be edgy! Though Roberts' exact shirt is no longer available, you'll be happy to know we've tracked down a slew of equally amazing heart-print products. Whether you prefer to address this trend subtly or just dive right in, you'll surely find something that you heart, er, love!

1. Rebecca Taylor Ikat 40's Dress ($350) in Navy
We absolutely adore this dress by Rebecca Taylor. Not only is its flirtatious silhouette a nod to the '40s look we love so much, but every feminine detail- including the draped sleeves, blurred heart print, and cut-out back-speaks perfectly to our ladylike sensibilities. While it's a fitting choice for a number of events, we'd wear this number with a pair of nude heels to an afternoon lunch with the girls or to date night.

2. Edith A. Miller Striped Heart Tee ($88)
You really can't have a heart-print story without at least one fun, quirky element in the mix, which is why we'd be remiss if we didn't include this Edith A. Miller striped tee. Full of charisma, the shirt expertly blends the preppy spirit of nautical stripes with the kitschy feel of the strategically placed hearts. Pair with a slim midi skirt, and you'll have yourself one seriously smashing outfit.

3. American Eagle Heart Aviator Sunglasses ($16) in Gold
Though we need another pair of sunglasses like we need another crazy deadline, these American Eagle shades were just too good to pass up for today's story! We find the hippie-meets-'70s vibe of these heart-shaped frames pretty irresistible, not to mention, they're perfect for incorporating some playful personality into all of your warm-weather looks. With an affordable price tag to boot, you'd be a fool not to pick up a pair right away!

4. Plush Love Scarf ($86) in Black/White
Considering we have a few more months before temperatures really begin to heat up, we thought this charming scarf would be a lovely way to introduce heart prints into your wardrobe right now. Though the pattern is decidedly girly, the black and white palette keeps the piece from feeling too saccharine, making it a cool option if you tend to err on the edgier side.

5. Hallelu Ruby Red Heart Ring ($10)
For those of you hoping to get in on this trend, albeit in a subtle way, snag this dainty ring from Hallelu. Though petite in size, the Ruby Red Heart Ring packs quite a punch in statement! Excellent on its own or great for stacking, this little bauble has "Be Mine" written all over it.

6. Alphabet Bags Heart Tote ($23) in Red Heart
Accessory-wise, we think this cotton heart-print tote is a very sweet pick. Its simple design is actually quite versatile-perfect for toting your laptop to the office or storing all your beach essentials come summer. However you decide to use it, we have a hunch it will quickly become one of your favourite carriers too!

7. Love Beatrice Sequin Heart Print Tights ($55) in Black/Red
Our next pick, Love Beatrice's Heart Print Tights, might just be our most beloved item in today's story. Sure, we're biased-the designer, Roxanna Beatrice, is a former intern-but you have to admit the red sequin hearts are pretty dang cute. We like the idea of keeping these shimmering thigh-highs in the spotlight by wearing them with a simple LBD. Trust us, he won't be able to keep his eyes off you!

8. Marc by Marc Jacobs Lighthearted Silk Pants ($298)
If you're crazy about heart prints, chances are you'll fall hard for these darling cropped trousers from Marc by Marc Jacobs. The bold red hue is sure to make a statement and the tiny, navy blue heart pattern is fitting for the season's microprint trend. Additionally-and we think you'll appreciate this too-the luxe silk and elasticized waist lend themselves to a truly comfortable fit. We suggest styling them with a neutral button-up blouse and basic pumps for a chic, sophisticated office-to-evening look.

9. Newbark Love Heart Shoes ($425, 212.753.7300) in Stone Linen/Black Leather
One of the things we love about heart prints is how they work on just about everything, fantastic footwear included! Consider Newbark's splurge-worthy slip-ons, for example. Featuring a mix of stone linen and black leather, these comfy flats brilliantly fuse casual luxury with a touch of downtown insouciance. We can definitely imagine Emma Roberts sporting these during her off-duty hours.-Jessica Baker
