Here’s something about me that I’m not particularly proud of: I am not a morning person. I wish I could be one of those women who gets up at 5a.m., goes to SoulCycle, runs errands, and has a full breakfast—all before leaving for work. Maybe I was during my younger days when, twice a week, I would rise for a 5:30a.m. Pilates class (true story). But now? Forget it. I’m lucky if I’m even remotely conscious by 9a.m.
But here’s something about my lack of morning friendliness that I’m actually proud of: I have a system down pat by which I can get ready in less than 15 minutes. It does require a bit of forethought— I always shower in the evening before bed, because I know I won’t have time in the morning. But once I finally crawl out of bed in the a.m., I can be out the door in 15 minutes or less.

Try to have a few pre-set outfits settled upon before bed. Don’t limit yourself to just one—equip yourself at least three go-to outfits you consider your uniforms. T-shirt and jeans, an LBD, and an office-ready look are good staples to have at the ready for those mornings when you just don’t have it together (i.e., me every single morning).
Obviously, if you have some really expensive designer shoes, you should be taking proper care of them, keeping them in their dust bags and boxes. But it’s a smart idea to stash a few pairs near your door. That way, if you need to run out, you won’t be frantically searching for a pair to put on.
Similar to your shoes, your handbag should be somewhere where you can just grab and go. If you’re running late, there’s no time for the hesitation caused by questions like, “Where’s my bag?” or “Should I change my bag?” or “Do I have that such-and-such random thing I really need in my bag?” If you’re running late, don’t change your bag. Just grab the one that’s accessible—which you’ve already stocked with everything you need, of course.
A woman only really needs three things on her face at any given time: foundation, mascara, and lipstick. If you find yourself in the midst of a frantic morning, grab these three, apply, and be done with it. If you’re feeling washed out, pinch your cheeks a bit to bring blood to the surface for a bit of a blushed look. Run wet fingers through your hair. Voila!
At this point, you definitely don’t have time to pause and mull over your accessory choices. Keep your go-to rings, bracelets, and necklaces in one place so you can snag them in a pinch, and don’t fret over having on too few accessories—as long as you have on your fundamentals, you’re good. It’s easy to over-accessorize, it’s nearly impossible to under-accessorize.
