Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones' wonderfully messy fishtail braid stood out in a sea of center parts and slicked-back hair at ELLE's Women in Hollywood awards this week. The Parks and Recreation actress wore a smoky blue eye and natural lip under her piecey fringe, all of which topped off a cobalt blue Calvin Klein Collection dress and Dannijo necklace. We chatted with the actress' beauty team to get the lowdown on scoring this look at home.Hair
Hair stylist Rob Talty wanted a "cool vibe that exuded effortless and playful glamour," so he created a slightly undone fishtail braid. To start he applied Oribe Foundation Mist ($22) to Jones' wet hair before blow-drying with a T3 Featherweight 2 Hair Dryer ($200) and an Ibiza Boar-Bristle Round Brush ($42) for volume and shine.

To turn hair "soft, shiny, and luminous," Talty used Rene Furterer's Okara Active Light Activating Leave-In Fluid ($26). "I began to fishtail braid the hair using small sections at the back of the head, pushing the braid toward the outside of her neck," he said. He secured the end with an elastic, then loosened the braid by gently pulling it apart "just enough to make sure it wasn't too perfect." To finish, Talty lightly sprayed the actress' whole head with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray ($24). Need more directions? Makeup artist Jamie Greenberg prepped Jones' skin with mark Primed for Perfection Face Primer ($10) then smoothed on mark Got the Goods Multi-Benefit Foundation Lotion SPF 15 ($18) in Medium 8. To set the base and create a "luminous glow," Greenberg dusted mark's Light Show Illuminating Face Powder ($16) and Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder ($12.50) all over Jones' face. For blush, she applied a creamy formula: mark Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint ($8) in Peachy.

Greenberg used mark Please Hold Eye Primer ($8) to "create a strong base" for mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow ($7) in Biscotti all over the lid. From there, she lined Jones' top lash line with the blue shade in mark's Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow ($11) in Surreal and her bottom lashes with the brand's No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner ($9) in Indigo Girl. Finally, she turned the eye smoky with more eye shadows: Nightly, a dark navy, and Galactic, a shimmering blue, to create a slight cat eye. (And, of course, two coats of Lash Act Build & Define Mascara ($12) in Black.)

To complement the bold eye Greenberg used a nude lipstick, mark's Lipclick Full Colour Lipstick ($11) in Toasty, upholding the nude lip/bold eye rule of thumb.
